What is GP? Also what is a gait? Also IT bands and hip flexors? I am not trying to be funny, Im just breaking down the terminology to help me better do research.

GP = General Practitioner (refers to a doctor)

    Gait means how you walk.

IT Band and Hip Flexor refers to areas of the body.

No worries! GP = General Practitioner. Years ago I went to my GP and she couldn't help so she referred me to an ortho doctor. If you have HMO insurance than you will need to go to your GP first and get the referral. If you have PPO insurance you can go to an ortho without a referral.
IT Band: is a thick band on the lateral aspect of the knee, extending from the outside of the pelvis, over the hip and knee, and inserting just below the knee. The band is crucial to stabilizing the knee during running, as it moves from behind the femur to the front of the femur during activity.
Hip Flexors: a group of skeletal muscles that act to flex the femur (thigh bone) onto the lumbo-pelvic complex, i.e., pull the knee upward.
You can google both to look up stretches.
Gait: is simply the manner in which you walk. Some people walk on the outside of their feet, some pronate inward, etc. How you walk is really important to figure out the most appropriate shoes that you should be in and if you need inserts in your shoes.
Feel free to private message me if you have any other questions.
    Good luck!

If it's severe, you're best off seeing an orthopedist.
