Nope, at that pay level I know there's a job or 15 like that just down the street.

    $50 an hour? I might.

I don't get out of bed for less than 20$ an hour any more.

yeah- and I barely do THAT as it is!!!!

I love my job- and I do pretty well for myself- but god danm is my bed comfortable... no way I'd leave it for 8$ an hour- I can make more sleeping all day and being on unemployment and making costumes/art and selling it. EFF THAT!!!

Jobs like that don't come with insurance either!

well first, i'd just like to say that where i live, minimum wage is 7.25 an hour, so i mean, in that sense, you're doing better, but are you paying for the gas for this round trip? cuz if so, make it at least 12 bucks an hour for that kind of trip. that's like me working at my mom's in Chicago and coming back to Indiana everyday for that amount, i go through at least a quarter tank of gas there n back, usually a bit more!

Unless I were homeless, no. $7.25/hr wouldn't pay for diddly squat for an adult.

No that wouldn't be enough to cover transportation costs and food.

Depends on how badly I needed money. If I'm about broke, and it's my only option, yes. If I've got some savings I'd keep looking.

I'm pretty sure making barely more than mimimum wage isn't going to cover gas and wear and tear on your vehicle from that commute, even if the car gets good gas mileage. The only exception I can think of is if you're guaranteed at least 40 hours per week (so that you often make overtime) and you also get really (REALLY) good benefits. Otherwise, I'd try to find something much closer to home. And this comes from personal experience - I make almost 3 times that per hour and have a round trip commute of about 90 miles. The only reason I haven't gone with a job closer to home is that I really like my job and my co-workers and I know I wouldn't make as much working in the area where I live.
  • Nope. No way.
I used to have a job making $15 an hour and had a 90 minute commute (45 there and 45 back) and it wasn't worth it. The only reason I kept it as long as I did was because I could go do my work on the beach.

    Edited to add:
If it's your ONLY option and you NEED money -- then by all means take it. But you asked about personally, and I am lucky to have other options and to not need the money bad enough to have to take it. But if I needed to in order to survive -- I would.

    Absolutely not.

And this is coming from someone who would probably do it for $9 or $10/hr if I didn't have ANY other options closer to home. But not $7.75!!

I wouldn't recommend it, because it likely wouldn't cover commuting costs, not to mention a long commute has significant life impact.

    No.

Oh, just realized I do volunteer work for free, so don't listen to me. Do what you need to do. :)

Not unless I was 1 of the million people that actually have to take that amount because its the only job I can get at the time.. Then listen to the rest of the country tell you that is enough for you to live on.. I know where this is going...

Mathematically it doesn't turn out in your favor. You'd be basically paying your work for you to work.

At this juncture in my life, no. If I was 16 years old and it was a fun job w/ a chance to meet girls then yes.

Nope, but I'm not in the position to need to do that. If I were to find myself out of work and needing to pay the mortgage and put food on the table for my kids? I'd do just about anything at any wage to do so.

It does speak to the general trend of this country (I'm assuming US) that people are so adamant about not working for a certain wage, rather living off unemployment as it pays better. Pretty sure that's not how it was intended to be used.

I drive twice that far total every day. But I also make several times that amount. No way would I do it for that pay.

If you've passed your fourh grade math class then you should be able to correctly answer this question.

If you didn't pass it then I guess congrats on your new job.

Minimum wage jobs are a dime a dozen. There's no need to travel far to obtain one.
  • I have a good afternoon job, but it's a set amount of low hours with good pay : (
I could quit my afternoon for a local job that's a 12hr shift , average about 42 hours each week.
and make more than the long distance job.

I would take any job I could to support my family. I would continue to look for a better job.

In the 80's I was making good money. $20/hr. Great money at that time. Lost my job. Went to a Temp Agency the next day. Got a temp job that was only paying $5 /hr. That's all there was out there. Had to make some adjustments, but I did. That job led to a permanent job. To a Management position. To where I am today.

It's easier to find a job when you have one.

I currently do a 50 mile round trip for £9.35 per hour. I like the job but its tiring. If you know you will still look for another job, do it. If not then don't

No way, especially with how bad the economy is now.
