Please help. I don't know what's going wrong.

I started healthy eating and working out 2 weeks ago and I have gains 4lbs.

Seriously I have not cheated. I had a few drinks but I worked out like a devil to 'enable' myself.

If I put on weight when I do things properly there is no hope!

Victoria.

Too many calories, I'm afraid. Make sure you're recording everything you eat and that you don't overestimate your burns.

You can eat as healthy as possible, but if you still get too many calories you wont lose weight

    Hi

I know how upsetting it is when you think you're doing the right things but the scales don't play nice :(

I have had a look at your food diary and there's no entries past Dec 3rd so I'm not sure how you're tracking your cals.

The days prior to this seems to be very high in cals. I know you are exercising however I wonder how you're tracking your exercise calories - I find the figures in MFP to be very high for me so I basically halve them and then only eat back around 1/2 again.

So maybe getting back to basics is what is needed.
    1) Track everything you eat
    2) Don't eat back all your exercise cals if you're not 100% sure of the burn rate (if you're using a HRM then it's probably more accurate)
    3) Stick with it :)

Could also be time of the month.

hardly any logging......hard to keep at a calorie deficet when you don't know how many you are eating.
  • 1. You need to be logging. If you don't know for sure what you're eating and how many calories it is versus how many you are burning -- you could easily be going over and gaining weight.

    2. Weight fluctuates a decent amount and four pounds could easily be water weight, or if it's time for your period it's also common to have weight fluctuations.

I think we need more of an idea of what you're putting into your mouth and the exercise you're doing before anyone can give you advice.

I took a look at your diary ... you have to log EVERYTHING ... EVERDAY. When you guess or dont weigh things you can take in a lot more than you think. I used to eat cheese by eye balling it ... I was SO wrong ... stick to logging everything for a couple of weeks and see how it goes.

Water weight is a factor (which means you need to drink more water, crazy I know), and I have ballooned at the TOM ... 5 lbs!

WHATEVER IS GOING ON ... just keep going!!!! THE SCALE WILL CATCH UP

  • I empathize! my body was so unaccustomed to healthy amounts of calories & daily exercise that I put on another 10 lbs before I lost anything. If pounds are depressing measure your hips, rear, and tummy instead. I watched my measurements change even when I was gaining those 10 lbs.

DON'T GIVE UP!! Give yourself some grace, weight gain doesn't mean you are less kind or intelligent - it just means you're doing something new!

Be patient with you body, keeping in mind ow much you are adjusting your life right now. The pounds will start slipping away when your body realizes you're not using exercise and low calorie eating to punish it.

Congratulations on starting a more healthy lifestyle... that is a wonderful 1st step. The next step is to figure out just how many calories you should be eating and stay within those calories. When looking at your food diary you are not tracking, so that may in fact be the issue.

The best suggestion I have to offer is to check out the following links to help you get started. They are pretty long reads, however, they are definitely worth the time.
