how many calories have I burned?

I know this has been asked before but I couldn't find the thread so please forgive me for bringing up the subject again.
My big question is: if a person who has low muscle to fat ratio and is carrying over 9 stone in excess body fat walks on a treadmill at 4.5 mph for 40 minutes will that person burn the same number of calories as a muscular thinner person carrying no extra fat if they walk on the same treadmill at the same speed for the same length of time?
The treadmill I use at my gym takes no account of weight but measures heart rate to calculate calories burned
MFP has no heart rate to help calculation but does take account of age and weight
I am 52 5'4'' my average heart rate during the exercise above was 116bpm
the treadmill calculated my burn as 280 calories, MFP calculated it to 500 cals
My small question is: how do I know which is right when trying to calculate the optimum calorie intake?
All comments appreciated thank you
PS I don't have apps or smart phones and gadgets that I know some of you use, I'm a bit of technophobe.

This may help.......
Runners World suggests the following formula to estimate net calories burned walking (net calories being those attributable directly to exercise, gross include BMR)
.30 x body weight in lbs x distance in miles
so, a person weighing 200lbs and walking 3 miles would expend an additional 180 calories on exercise0 -
