Well, I'm pushing 40 and feeling like I'm pushing 80. I've got 130 pounds until I'm a "healthy" weight. I'm out of shape something terrible. Mostly in the belly and middles, and my back hurts something awful, just about all the time. I've just been diagnosed with diabetes, and I really don't want to die before I have a chance to see my four kids grow up and give me grandbabies. So I need to DO something about this.

I really don't know what I'm doing, but someone recommended this app on my phone, so I signed up, and have actually been using it! Now, if only I could control my eating a bit (emotional eater), and get off my tail end more!

    You CAN do this. Say it with me..."I CAN do this." .....SAY IT!!

    Seriously, though, look through the success stories. So many people here started with what seems like crazy odds against them, but have done it. The hardest part is now, starting and continuing. Make a resolve to do a bit more each day and not beat yourself up about any setbacks. No one around here is perfect; we've all had days that suck where we over eat or use 600 of our cals on emotional eating. It happens. Just keep doing it and remembering the reasons you stated that YOU want a better you.

    Good luck :flowerforyou: :tongue: :flowerforyou:

    Focus on one thing at a time.

    1. Track what you eat normally for a few days to get an idea.
    2. Set a date, and then from then on, stick to the calories allotted you by MFP.
    3. Start going for a walk daily. Go a little bit further or walk for a couple of minutes more a day.
    4. Stick with it if it's working - no need to overcomplicate it.
    5. If you want to add more exercise, look into a resistance exercise plan.

    It could take you a few weeks or a few months to grind everything into a routine, but just be patient and realise it took time to gain this weight so it will take time to take it off.

    A few other things to note;
    - If you log exercise in, your calorie goal will increase for the day. This is to ensure you don't create an unreasonable deficit that could lead to unhealthy weightloss. However, MFP itself tends to overestimate calorie expenditure so if you are going to log exercise, do it with a HRM or something similar, or just eat about 60% of the calories added through exercise.

    - Cutting out anyone macronutrient is unnecessary EXCEPT where a Dr. has told you otherwise, and when they have - listen to them. So, don't take advice from anyone here about your diabetes.

    - There's no need to fret if you mess up. If you do it right more than you do it wrong, you'll get where you want to be.

    - Work out what your trigger foods are - as you're an emotional eater, and limit access to them if they're going to cause you problems.

    Best of luck :)

    As Ironanimal said...ONE THING AT A TIME! Make one change a week and hang on to it while you make another and another and another, and poof, you will become a healthier person!
  • No, I haven't. I didn't know they had that stuff out there. My doctor just put me on a shot and told me to take it once a day (Victoza) and all that. In fact, I'm in the process of getting a second opinion about diabetes, because my blood glucose is more along the lines of PRE-diabetes than diabetes, according to other sources.
