Weight loss during the festive season

It's that happy time of the year again when there is joy everywhere - including eggnog, Christmas dinner, mulled wine, mince pies...and, of course, family. How do you plan on keeping your calories in check during the festive season?
As for me, I am seeing family after 6 months, I am planning on just trying to maintain and watching portions! Don't want to be grumpy while calorie-counting during Christmas ^_^

I went to California for a week of fun in the sun and family time over Thanksgiving. Definitely kept up on my healthy lifestyle but did not feel one bit deprived. Had a beautiful turkey dinner and even a piece of pumpkin pie. I walked a 5K turkey trot the morning of Thanksgiving which allowed me to splurge a bit and have that pie and still come home to a 2.2 pound weight loss!
I see no reason why the month of December cannot be the same way for me. I just went to Trader Joe's yesterday and bought some holiday treats but I can still live in moderation. It does not have to be all or nothing. This is a lifestyle change for me so I need to be able to have a little something special but still keep myself in check and come in where I need to be every single day calories wise. It can be done and I have no doubt I will do it. Not sure why I would ruin the most festive time of year by stopping my weight loss, or worse yet, gaining.0 -
Am not buying tins of cookies this year like I usually do. Will just make a dozen for Christmas day. Hubbie needs to lose weight also so there is no point in going all out and testing our resolve to lose the weight. Still going to do my hour of exercise on Christmas day before we go to my mother's house for a big meal. There I will just eat smaller portions. Mom understands that I am trying to get this weight off before my nephew's wedding in September so she won't be offended if I don't pig out. Will only take one pie to her house this year. Am not going to eat a lot and then feel all the guilt and anxiety that comes with it. I CAN DO THIS!!!! Have a happy Christmas everyone!0

I still have my advent calendar and I'll be having my Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, but I'm going to try to cut back on all the extra treats like chocolates and mince pies that I'd usually eat throughout the entire month.0

I went over board at thanks giving but for Christmas I am going to try and stay within my calories to maintain on that day. Plus I'm not going to skip my work out... well that's my plan anyway!!0

I'll be going home for a week from the 17th-25th, and I'm a little worried about what that week will look like for me… I finish the 30 Day Shred on the 16th, so I was planning on giving myself a few days of rest anyway, but I don't think I need the whole week off. I can probably manage to go for a few jogs or power walks, though.0

I think the best thing to do is maintain, or just forgetaboutit for a few days. You have to eat an awful lot of excess calories to gain a pound. I tend to gain weight when i eat a surplus of calories every day over a long period of time like a month or so.
This Christmas I planned to lose 5 pounds in two months, one of those months being December. My plan is to continue to have a deficit, but some weeks I just average it out. So, for example, I overate at a pot luck two days ago, so I'll just make up for it over this week by cutting 100 calories here and there. (I also include my daily Christmas chocolate in my deficit).0 -

Yeah, I'm with you as far as the dieting goes. I don't want to spend the entire week with my family who I won't see again for six months obsessing over how many calories are in the things that people have made. I want to enjoy things in moderation, not go overboard, but not freak out over it either.0
