Question about polar HRM

I just received my hrm yesterday, it's a polar ft4. I put in all my info; my weight, age, etc, and used it, along with the chest strap at the gym. It was waaaay off as far as the machines were concerned. It reported that I burned about 60 calories more than what the treadmill and the elliptical said. Don't the machines already overestimate? I even stopped it and restarted it, along with the treadmill at the same time to see what the differences would be.

I did the 30 day shred for a total of 24 mins and it said I burned 243 calories. This seems high. I'm 5'4 and 137. Am I doing something wrong?

did you also do the aerobic fit test or whatever that thing is called where the HRM tries to calibrate what your V02 max is? that might also be a good idea because it will give a better idea of what your real heart rate exertion ranges are

So, that's not an option on the ft4. Any other suggestions?
