So, today I went to my cottage to visit my family and with that came a lot of extra calories. When I got home, even though I knew I had over eaten, I banked my calories for the day to find I over ate by like 1000 calories. I feel like a cow and like all my hard work is out the window. I've been doing so well for so long, and I feel terrible about it and like I'm never going to shed the weight. Ugh!! :( thank you for listening!

  • ITS OK!!! It happens....know from experience :) Tomorrow just start again. Maybe add a few extra minutes to each work out, every little bit adds up. We all slip and make mistakes and just have to get back up, dust ourselves off and keep going for it! Hope you feel better! Lots of hugs and positive thoughts going your way!

Oh man - I'm in the same boat with you!

Hang in there and continue tomorrow. You can't take it back, so just do well tomorrow!

You are a work in progress and you're only human. It's going to take awhile to unlearn all those crazy social eating habits.

    Best of luck tomorrow!

If your goal is to loose 2 pounds a week, consider this. 2 pounds a week is a 1000 calorie a day deficit . . . which means that today you ate your maintenance calories and did absolutely no damage to your weight loss other than hitting the pause button for a day.

1 pound a week would be 500 over your maintenance and will come off tomorrow so that's just a 2 day pause.

One day is just one day, and every new day is a new chance to succeed. One day will never ruin you. People only ruin themselves when they give up, and decide that that one day was a good enough excuse to throw in the towel. Don't give up, you can do this.

I know the feeling! When it first happened to me, I felt just the way you do. I thought of all the hard work and how I had let myself down. Like I had failed. But that's really not the case. It will happen every now and then. It's usually a family gathering or a party. Just enjoy those times. It is certainly hard to keep under your goal, let alone track it, with so much good food at those kind of events. You just have to wake up the nex day, get on the scale and start again. You're really not starting over. You're just keepin' on keepin' on. Really...I've been there many times! Have your cake. Eat it too. And just like the other poster said, increase your workout a little. In fact, sometimes when I know I'm going to be confronted with a lot of food, I start my day off with a couple of more miles in my workout. Earn some extra calories. It all works out. Don't be discouraged!

don't worry! splurging every once in a while actually is a good thing, otherwise you would eventually quit your diet, becoming frustrated by not being able to have the things you like to eat.

anyways, you lose pounds (healthily) in weeks, so just make sure that this next week, you do extra well, exercising and eating the best you can. MFP measures that amount of calories you burn each WEEK to determine how much weight you will lose each week. so splurging one day isnt going to screw all your hard work up. TRUST me.

    good luck to you!

I tell you what you should feel terrible about and that is if you give up.

You are totally correct when you say "all my hard work" and "I've been doing so well for so long" - exactly! Do not let it all be in vain.

Sweep yourself off and continue. You had a bad day, get over it and carry on. Remember the feeling you had when you discovered how much you had gone over your calories and use that feeling to your advantage, everytime you feel like bingeing or snacking on rubbish crap, remember how you felt and it could be enough to put you off eating the wrong things.

One day's overeating? Everybody is allowed mistakes it is what makes us human, do not, however, punish yourself any further, just carry on with your eating plan, that is the way to amend for what you feel you have done wrong xxx

I know what you mean. but what you need is willpower. No matter how much something looks appealing you have to say no. This is what I do. I was a big soda drinker, and that was not easy at all. I went through withdrawls(believe it or not) when I stopped drinking sodas, and it was not fun at all, I had a headache for 2 weeks. Now I dont even crave it at all. But that is the same when I go to my sis in laws house and they are big eaters. what i do is portion myself, just serve myself on a smaller plate so that way it looks like i have a full plate but i don't. and if there is something that you really want just serve yourself like a tablespoon of it just to taste, so that way you wont deprive yourself either. dont worry or stress over it. It was one day it will get better.
  • We all have those days ... Or even those moments. My mom was determined to take me to the newest Chinese buffet in town last Wed. (1 day after I started here) .... I won't even tell you by how many cal. I went over that day ... Mostly because I don't remember because I've tried very hard to forget ... lol ..... I was certain that everything I ate had put on at least 5lbs/plate!! But it didn't .... Just make sure that you do record everything you eat because it gives you the opportunity to go back later to see how you've improved, or what pitfalls to try to avoid. Take heart! You're a strong person for doing this, and for admitting a minor setback!! You CAN do this!!!
