I bought some Southwestern Spiced Tilapia from Wal-Mart Sunday. I thawed them out and made them last night in foil packets on the grill(Nothing to it just took it out of the plastic pouch, slapped it on a piece of foil and closed it up), they were FABULOUS!!! 100 calories for a 4 ounce filet, 3 grams of fat. 2 filets come in a package. At my Walmart Supercenter they are in a freezer by themselves with the frozen shrimp, crab, etc, not in the frozen isle, but closer to the raw chicken, pork, hamb etc. I think they were around $3-4.
The most awesome part is my kids(ages 10 and 8) asked if they could try mine(I had made them chicken)and they LOVED them!!! They hate spicy food and definitely don't like fish, my youngest asked me if I'd make them again tonite!!! They also have a chipotle lime salmon and a couple of other flavored tilapias.

  • How long did you cook them on the grill? I've tried baking fish and it never turns out.

This was so easy it is criminal. Just thaw them out and wrap them in the foil and put on the grill for 8- minutes, they were perfect. I didn't have to spray the foil or anything. I've always had trouble w/fish and shrimp on the grill too, it always gets stuck to tthe grill and gets all tore up or it's dried out. This was SO GOOD and SO EASY.

Thanks, I'll have to remember that for fall. It's Spring where I live which means it's grill season, which means no more hot ovens until October

I hate fish. I have tried tilapia 2 times and was able to eat it, but hated it. Does the seasoned ones taste like fish? Cause I would love to put more fish in my diet, besides tuna.

I had tried plain frozen tilapia before and HATED it, the seasoning on this was soooo good, no it did not taste like fish. It was so non fishy tasting or smelling that my kids(the pickiest of all eaters) liked it and even asked again tonite if i was going to make them for dinner again tonite.
