I was not a fan of it, unfortunately. I had wanted to try it out for a really long time and came across it a month or two ago at Half-Price Books so I got it. I was not at all impressed. I would rather follow the MMA style workout dvds.0

Personally, I love it.
I spent a couple of years using EA Active Fit 2 on the Kinect, and still appreciate many of the exercises on it (although, I worked to find ways to make it more difficult ... such as actually incorporating a step in their "step aerobics"). I often built myself new programs based on pure circuit-training concepts.
This summer I picked up a used copy of UFC Trainer. Now, I'll start by saying that when UFC Fighter - Uncaged came out, I rented it and found myself sweating just doing the "learn the moves for the game" section. I decided that something like that could be a pretty good workout. So, when I found the actual UFC trainer "game" used, I grabbed it.
The warmups quickly become boring as heck - same 4 moves every time, just in a different order- just like the cooldowns - I have incorporated other warmup/cooldown moves on my own. The voiceovers also become annoyingly repetitive - but hey, there's a volume control on my TV.
Since getting it, I have done 30 and 60 day programs for both Strength and Endurance. I just started a 30-day program for Weight Loss.
Because the Kinect tracks your motion, the "game" actually assigns a point value to your proper completion of the exercise rep, it also estimates calorie burn. So, at the end of a 20 to 55 minute workout (depending on the focus that "day"), you have a good idea of the calorie count. I have actually found it to be reasonably good and consistent at that count.
It also razzes you if you don't complete the entire set OR if you miss a day - by the way, all programs are 5-days-per-week (2-1-3-1)....which since you're working out at home, you really have few excuses to fail.
The "average" day sees about 10 calories burn per minute.
The "game" follows the NASM model for exercise programs, which is a good thing. With little teeny breaks between exercises, it's circuit training ... and some days are 2 or 3 cycles of the same set of exercises.
So ... how's it been working for me? First ... I'm on a "gain weight" goal right now ... but gain in the right places at the right time. Since I started using UFC Trainer, I have gained 9 lbs in the "right places". Obviously, I'm intentionally drinking the sugar-laden Powerade ION instead of sugar-free because I need to regain the calories lost. Yes, I follow-up each workout with protein and proper eating.
However, since UFC Trainer brings you through a good mix of strength, cardio, and fighting techniques (and ohh....you'll do a lot of squats and lunges!) it's been everything I WANTED in a workout "game".
If you have a Kinect, finding a $15 used copy of UFC Trainer is an awesome idea. I'm personally not a gym-type guy, so something that motivates me to spend 30-50 minutes working out at home 5 days a week is a good thing ... and it's kept me on-pace pretty well.
I will say this: 3 days into the "weight loss" program, I'm not overall impressed with what they have put together - I was burning more calories on "Strength" or "Endurance" modes ... but we'll see how it progresses.0 -
Wow thanx very much for that, very informative view , i bought it on ebay for a couple pounds and it shld arrive 2moro. I do Insanity a couple days a week but needed something new to try. I want to increase strength since insanity and my running covers cardio.
Fitmolly what dvds do u do?0 -
Update: I found out why I'm not impressed with the "Weight Loss" program: it's because it's taking my BMI into account, and has decided that I really should not be losing weight, so it's designing short, low-intensity "keep fit" workout days. If my BMI was different, my workouts would be different - they're very customized for the person.
So, I'm supplementing it with weights/fighting moves.0 -
I went to the library and was reading a health issue of ShopSmart, and they said to skip the UFC game.
Let us know what you think of it once you've tried it out. You could have had my copy lol.
I am currently doing a hybrid of Chalean Extreme and Focus T25.
Have you looked into tapout xt or rushfit?0 -
I had this game for a while before I started going to the gym, and my three year old broke it. I thought it was really good, helped me lose about 8 pounds in 1.5 months(along with eating less of course). Those V-ups are ridiculous, I don't think I can even do a correct one now even after having been working out since July LOL The boxing stuff was definitely my favorite though, it was fun and a great workout once you start getting into the harder sets.0
