Weight Gain with a 1200 calorie diet.

This week I had a couple of days where I went above 1200 calories but yesterday was my highest calorie day at about 1500 calories. I gained half a pound this week. Does this mean my maintain calories will be somewhere between 1200 and 1400 when I move to maintenance calories?
Is this a common issue for people who have been on this diet long term?
I'm trying to not be frustrated but I only seem to lose around half a pound a week when I do keep to 1200.

no it means for some reason (hormonal, exercise, lack of sufficient bowel movements) your overall weight was 1/2lbs heavier then last week.
Chances are high it is not a fat gain, but since you haven't really given us any other stats everything else is guess work.0 -
Agreed, very unlikely to be anything more than normal weight variation if you're eating 1200-1500 cal. Keep it up for at least 2 weeks, then see how you go.
Also, I'd recommend you get a food scale & a Heart Rate Monitor to make sure that you're being as as accurate as possible with your food intake and exercise calories0
