Why Is Nature So Cruel ?

I'm 23 tomorrow, and I get constantly told that I look like I belong in High School. I know a girl around the same age as me, but she looks and sounds (vocally) like she's 12. She's 5'0 and wears a size girls 16. I asked what grade she was in, and if she was going into the local regional high school, or one of the 2 co-ed private schools in town. (there's a 3rd but it's boys only) She looked at me horrified, in tears said that she's 25 and taking classes at the local community college, going to transfer after the 2 years to a private state university.

Take that as a compliment. You look young and that's a good thing. Not everyone is blessed with genes that makes them look young for a long time. You are, so smile -hug-0
-
I'm 37 and would probably shriek and hug any bartender who carded me at this point.
Someday your youthful looking face will be a blessing!0 -
I get this all the time too. People generally think I'm 16/17 (though once in college my date was asked if I needed a child's ticket at the movie theatre... you have to be 12 or under to buy one  ) because I'm 5'2 and have a bit of a baby face.
It's really frustrating because people will treat you like a child or with contempt. I can walk into a store and be completely ignored, and if I ask for assistance people will be rude to me because they think I'm a kid wasting their time.
The funny thing is that my fiance is a lot older than me so people will think he's my dad and I've had young men try to get my number from him or ask him if I'm single :laugh:0 -
I didn't get carded on my last birthday and I almost slapped a b!tch. I'm only 22 and I'm mistaken for a high schooler all the time but the guy at the Cheesecake Factory had no problem bringing me all kinds of alcohol.
On the other hand, I taught a class at my university this semester and the students didn't realize I was their instructor. Looking young has it's benefits and it also has the ability to be annoying a hell.0 -
Without my beard, everyone guesses that I'm 18-21. I'm actually 27. I never complain about it.0

I would stop wearing pigtails.0
-
It's better than someone telling you that you need a seniors bus pass. That time will come soon enough....0

I would stop wearing pigtails.
They're not pigtails, it's my ponytail split in half =^_^=0 -
I'm in my late 30s and recently passed for 12 at a local amusement park, where I was let onto a ride with my daughter, when the age limit for the ride was 12. Being short, in shape and wearing tomboyish clothes is what I blame it on. It's nice to be able to say you've been mistaken for being your daughter's sister..... but not so much when she's only 7
used to regularly get charged child fare on the buses when I was in my 20s (that was in London where 13-14 yr olds are supposed to have bus company ID cards to prove they're still eligible for child's fare so if they automatically charge you child fare without asking for ID they think you're 12 or younger) and also been asked my age in pubs pretty much all the time. One time when i was 21 I was with my 25 year old cousin, who's an inch or two taller than me and was in the British army at the time... we both got age ID'd in this pub.... the look on the bartender's face when my cousin pulled out her army ID card was hilarious. Maybe it runs in families.
I've always been told to take it as a compliment. Even more so these days now I'm technically an old fogie.... trust me when you get older it's much easier to take stuff like that as a compliment.0 -
enjoy it while it lasts0

I'll be 29 in February and I still routinely get carded when buying liquor, and I still get told I only look about 19 or 20 fairly regularly. It used to annoy the crap out of me but believe me, you'll appreciate it more and more the older you get.0
-
Damn. I'm 41 and got carded recently. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face for hours. Of course, I know the waitress was FOS but whatever0
-
Makeup. And lots of it. I stopped getting carded at 18 cause I look older so all of you can bite me :-p0
-
I got carded right up until I was 29.....I'm 30 and never get carded anymore. I wonder if it's because my greys are showing more or that I actually look my age now.
Maybe I need to lose heaps of weight to get back to being carded.0 -

Why Is Nature So Cruel ?
If looking young is the worst natural cruelty you face, feel blessed. There are *ahem* bigger (or smaller) things men have to contend with in today's society.0 -
I still got carded before I left the States and I'm 30 (they're super lax here in Russia, and the drinking age is 18 anyway). When I first got here I had to break out ID to prove my age to my co-workers because, "there's no way you're any older than 25" haha, they thought I was 21-22. As I've lost weight I've looked younger and younger... it'll be interesting to see what happens when I'm done.0

Once I had to nip out of work to go buy a window scraper. I selected one, went to pay for it, and got ID'd. You have to be 16 to buy a blade. I didn't have anything on me so I just said- will my wedding ring do? You have to be 16 to get married right? I was allowed to buy the blade.
I remember the first time I bought alcohol with getting checked, and that was when I was 27. I never get asked any more, but that's probably because I am tailed by two children everywhere I go now0 -
People always think I'm still in school as well, I kinda like it though will be a blessing when I get older :P0
-
Wait until you're 40 and people think you're older.0 -
Oh nature why are you so cruel to this poor girl, giving her youthful looks! You are a harsh mistress indeed, the world is just so unfair. *smh*

I look young for my age too. I'm 21 look about 16 if I'm lucky.0
-
Nothing wrong with looking young. In England they're pretty lax with drinking, and I started going to pubs when I was nearly 17 (you have to be 18 to drink) and never had to show ID. I went to the US when I was 25 and had to go back to my room to get my passport for ID so I could have a drink at the hotel!
People generally think I'm younger than I am, and the same happens to my husband. He's 39 and people think he's about 28.0 -

Wait 15 years. You'll appreciate it then.
I know what you're going through. We were on a trip for our first wedding anniversary and the flight attendant tried to tell me you have to be at least 15 to sit by the emergency exit doors. :noway: But now that I have teenagers, I love those times when people think I look 5-10 years younger than I am.0 -
You'll grow into it OP0
