Working out in the morning...

Hey all! My name is Chancy and, through diet and exercise and using systems like P90X and Insanity, I have lost 98lbs and currently have excellent muscle tone. I am pretty close to my goal weight right now...

But I have sooooo much trouble working out in the mornings! I know I just need to "swallow the frog" and get it over with while it's still AM. It is so much better to work out in the morning because of the higher calorie burn all day, plus if i workout early I tend to stay on track better with my eating and drinking water.

I got up extra early this morning and worked out but I have had much trouble sticking with it! Does anyone have the same issue or have any tricks or tips that have helped you along the way to workout in the morning?

Thank you!

Hi, I have always been an AM work-out girl -- I feel the energy all day and feel great. Yes, some days it is more difficult than others but here is what I have done -- since it also takes me a little while to get up and moving. I set my alarm an hour before I need to wake up - I allow one snooze then drink coffee, check email etc. (be careful here because you can get sidetracked) - then I get dressed and hit the gym. I am lucky because the gym is a quarter of a mile from my home. Then, I work out for an hour to 90 minutes. If I don't get the full 90 minutes in I stop at the gym on my way home for a quick 30 min work out which also helps with the metabolism and I tend to be less hungry and more conscious at dinner. Not much, but I hope it helps.

I used to HATE working out in the morning, but due to my schedule I have no choice. I used to be a late evening gym rat. The key for me is getting to bed at a decent time and getting up in the morning, w/ a few minutes to get dressed and get myself together. I find that once I've gotten dressed and walked around the house for a few minutes, I'm pretty awake and ready to start. Working out in the morning is great for me and I love it. I too love Insanity and I have never tried P90X, but have heard good things about it.

Generally I wake up, check my email, make a cup of coffee and sometimes I light breakfast, sometimes not. Then I just think to myself that the sooner I get on the treadmill and get moving the sooner I'll be done and I can go enjoy my day. I find that even If I get up and do this on weekends (I sleep in an extra hour or so on saturday and sunday) I can enjoy my weekend even more, and it keeps me on track. Sometimes I put a movie on my ipod and then I get lost in the story so my workout seems better! Hope this helps :)

I used to hit the gym at 5am. Yes, 5am. I was glad to get it over with but then I would fizzle out about 1pm. Now, I go anywhere between 8am-9:30am. It just works out better for me and I don't feel like I'm not getting enough sleep. Also, sometimes I end up going at 4 or 5 in the afternoon. I think it's just better do to it whenever you can. If you force yourself to in the morning, it might end up being a chore.

I recently made the switch to working out at 5am because there really is no other time in my day that I can reliably and regularly work out. You do what you have to do, right? It was hard at first, but here are the tricks to get me going:
    --go to bed nlt 10pm
--put workout clothes out the night before
--plan my routine for that morning ahead of time
--set alarm for 4:45 and get up when it goes off!
--realize that by 6:15am, I'll be done for the day!!

Once I'm up, I might as well get going! Mainly, I remember that this is the only time of day I really have for a workout.
Not sure that will help, but it got me off my butt and working out while most folks are still sleeping.
    Good luck!
