Measurements or weight for goal

Is it better to set body measurement goals or a weight goal. I'm just getting started and don't know if I want to be obsessed with weight

Obviously you should be tracking all your data points. Keeping track of your weight isn't being "obsessed" about it, it's just keeping track.0

Why not look at both?0

Both. As you start to exercise and build muscle there could be weeks where you gain weight but lose inches, so I think it's important to keep track of both.0

Measurements, at least for myself. Currently riding the line between healthy and overweight, but comfortably in a size 60

Personally, I've always set a weight goal, but it depends what works for you.0

I started out caring about a weight goal, but I've been maintaining my loss for a while and am comfortable where I am even though I am not at my goal weight. I don't really pay much attention to measurements either really, just the way clothes fit0

DON'T BE A SLAVE TO THE SCALE!!!. And if you are gaining muscle your weight won't dissapear the same way the inches will. I've dropped from a size 18/16 to a 11/10 and only lost 10lbs in the last 2 months. Remeber muscle weighs more than fat and is also soooo much smaller! Especially in the begging when your body is transforming. That muscle will burn more calories in the long run! Good luck!0

Maybe I used the wrong word obsessed but don't know which I should track as more important0

Both. For several reasons. First off, it gives you two things to feel good about, especially if you have a plateau period (which we all seem to) and you can see that you look better even if the scale doesn't always validate it.
I was a huge fan of the belt loop test. When I lost the first belt loop it was great, the 2nd was better. The tape validated my waist line was down a good two inches. Clothes that had not fit were able to get back into the rotation, current clothes need to be taken in...
I've stopped trying to lose weight and I'm probably as lean as I'm going to get, but all the running and working out has led to meaningful improvements in terms of my conditioning and ability to finish workouts.0 -
I think it's important to track both. Which one you should use for goal though, I'm not really sure. I personally have a weight goal but not sure what I should be measurement wise. So, I track both and will feel it out as I go along.0
