This is actually "Sky's" topic but we went over and the link got locked.
Day 2 of my cycling skills training. We did pace lines (single, double, and continuous). I couldn't get the hang of continuous pace lines. Before going out on the road we did loops around the parking lot in close groups and practiced grabbing water bottles from the frame and things out of our jersey pockets while riding close together. We weren't supposed to look at the water bottles. Then we handed items back and forth through the group and off we went.
The ride was spent in three rides of about 20 miles each as we practiced new skills. The 3rd ride was the continuous pace line and not everyone went on that one. At the turnaround point we were asked if we wanted to ride back in a high-speed double paceline. The two instructors led out the paceline and got faster and faster "killing" the weaker riders and finally breaking away from the paceline all together. By the time I realized what was going on I had to clear 4 riders to get in position to try to catch the breakaway. I had only 1 gear and little leg left before traffic slowed them enough to catch them.
We regrouped and the leaders went back for the wounded as we proceeded homeward. The group didn't want to ride hard any longer and two of us broke out in a sprint to burn what was left of our legs. My highest sustained speed in this sprint was 24 mph against his 28 mph and he let me catch him at the stop sign before beating me to the parking lot.
Once everyone got to the benches for cool-down and review, we decided it had been a great two days. We put in 66.7 road miles today.

Wow, the cycling skills training sounds intense. Sounds really cool, too. I ride alone most of the time, other times with just my husband, so I imagine it is necessary to learn to ride with a group. I'd love to do something like this to get the push you got to really exert yourself. I bet you felt great afterwards, especially after seeing your sustained speed. Nice job.0
