December inspiration...

I need help! I am stuck in Canadian winter and want so badly to return to old eating habits that sometimes look like I am going into hibernation! I have a treadmill I love to run but sometimes totally lack motivation...anyone trying anything new for December diet or exercise wise that might help me to stay on track?

I got a personal trainer at my gym to kick my butt in gear. Sounds like that may not be an option for you, but here are some thoughts:

Use the snow, go for a walk in the snow, bundle up and remember what it was like to be a kid and run through the deep snow. It burns calories and I think its fun :)
    Get a new exercise video
    Try a hula hoop
    Dance
    Jump rope

    Diet:

Lower calorie comfort foods, like oatmeal
Substitutes for junk, jello, pudding, hot chocolate

Winter is harder, but for me most of the trick is to change it up and remind myself that I feel better not sitting, I feel better not eating so much sugar, etc. Anything that works. I also come here more often for inspiration and to help keep me on track

I am an oxymoron! I absolutely HATE winter, yet I love to shovel snow. Because I have a job that does not require any manual labor, I think I get a kick out of doing manual labor and it's so gratifying to shovel off little sections until they add up to one big driveway. I always shovel my elderly neighbor's driveway too. It burns lot of calories, works out my muscles, makes me feel good because I did something nice for someone else, and the fresh air is invigorating!

I'm writing these down great ideas...my husband plows as part of his job I might have to ask him to leave our driveway alone ;) gives me an excuse to get out and workout a little differently!

i get on here at least every other day for motivation bc i am very good at talking myself out of it..im in ny winter near the lakes so i get it. i also try to plan my meals or at least have a back up. If i am not hungry i do fine (so i eat every 2-3 hrs or try to). i always give myself permission to eat again (i used to eat all my cals in one or two meals which didnt help me change my eating habits). i try to be around people, go shopping, go to the gym, etc. i try to wear "girl clothes" at my job i wear scrubs and when i come home i love to wear sweatpants and sweatshirts in winter but if i make the effort to dress up i feel better about myself. :)

My kids love making fires in the fire pit so we are building a snow wall around the fire pit area. Also hauling around the wood is a good work out. I bought a small pedal machine you can use for arms or legs to keep me moving when I can't get out. I also like playing Wii games and my kids love laughing at me trying to play the dance party games.

I'm with ya. I'm pretty much stuck at home until spring because our vehicle doesn't do very well in the ice and slush. Shoveling snow does a pretty good burn, and I swear my back is going to be cut by spring! I'm trying some new videos and games on the Wii. I also try to plan my meals and snacks like stephy said, so when I start getting cravings I can tell myself "You get to eat this at this time." And I also troll the boards and pinterest looking at fitspo when I'm feeling really unmotivated. Good luck! Stay warm!
