Looking for a new strategy

MFP has helped me lose about 30 lbs. in the last two years. This past year, however, I've really struggled to see any weight loss at all. In fact, I recently quit taking a medication and gained five pounds. Argh! I weigh my food religiously and this my diary is very honest (and sometimes ugly). I'm presently going with 1710 calories and not eating back exercise (I run 4-14 miles 3-4 times/week for an average of prob 16 miles/week).

I tried 1500 and I was hungry all the time.

What have people done to spark a change and get out of a rut? I'm not against intermittent fasting, for example, but when I tried it in the past I saw no change.

I spent like 6 months dropping 30 pounds and now I have spent 18 months trying to lose 5 pounds and instead I gained it in a month. It's hard to not give up!

I found upping my protein and lowering my carbs by just a little (10%) actually helped. You may also be in an exercise rut. You have become very efficient at running so it isn't as strenuous an exercise any more. Try something different like crossfit or swimming to use some different muscles and mix up the routine. Good luck

Your protein is pretty low and I don't see any resistance training. I would suggest altering your macro's to around 40% carbs, 30% fats and protein. Additionally, I would look to do some weight training or resistance training. Doing so will help with muscle retention and provide some composition changes.

Additionally, consistency is key to weight loss.

yes. When did you last recalculate your caloric needs? Maybe you are eating too much,. Incorporating more protein and fat will have you feeling more full with less calories.
  • You know I was frustrated too, I lost 5lbs first month then Nothing so I did some research here on MFP and the web and kept coming across calorie confusion.. OMG !!! needless to say I was extremely skeptical but said "what do I have to lose", and it worked I ate higher calories for 2 days then went back to my 1395 intake and in 4 1/2 days I lost 2 more lbs.. So I am a believer and my TOM is around the corner so I know I am retaining fluid also.. So look into calorie confusion ( tricking the Metabolism) it might help you too.

    Good Luck
