Advice needed by lady low carbers

I have been trying to stick to as low carb as I can go, which is usually around 35-40g as I like some non starchy veg, nothing but meat makes me feel sick. Anyway my question is - how do you deal with an insatiable sweet tooth every month? I suffer terribly from PMS every month and I get grumy about eating low carb and I crave sweets like i have never craved anything so much in my life, today i succumbed to 2 squares of chocolate and several sppons of marmalade (but not on toast) which probably isnt a huge deal but I doubt I would be in ketosis now. Bring on menopause!!

sounds like you are torturing yourself to do low carb..

do you have a medical reason for doing so? If no, then you can eat carbs and lose weight…you just have to eat in a daily calorie deficit and hit your macro goal for the day…

I would say make room for what you want and stay in a calorie deficit...

Thanks for responding! Yeah its not something that suits my natural likes food wise, but I have or had badly managed diabetes which has caused many health complications, I only have to look sideways at a piece of bread and my blood sugars go through the roof. This seems to be the only diet I can lose any weight on, I have lost about 70 lbs so far (most of it prior to MFP, I needed the extra help to get the last 40lbs off)

Hi Penny, I understand what you are going through. I went through a great deal of trial and error, I've been on MFP for a long time, but only in the last few months did I finally discovered that the LCHF diet works for me, I lose more than a pound per week consistently and my cravings are gone. I used to be a sugarholic as well. I took a quick peek at your diary and what I noticed is that your fat is pretty low relative to my eating strategy. The way the LCHF diet works is that the fats provide satiety and knocks down my sugar cravings. I also limit my protein to 1.5 grams per kg of lean body weight. And I limit my net carbs to 25 grams. I'm now able to keep my blood sugar stable and doctor is impressed with blood work. I keep my diary open to friends, if you want to see it I'd be happy to open it up to you. I hope you find what works for you. Good luck in your journey.
  • Definitely up your fat intake (mine is over 50% of my total calories as a rule) and try sweetening things with stevia. You can kill 2 birds with one stone and make various delicious choclatey things using coconut oil- google coconut oil chocolate or low carb stevia recipes.
