NO GUT IS GLORY!

Hey Guys,
I have been using mfp for a while now, but I had not yet visited the community until now. I get my inspiration not necessarily for the good looks (although that is indeed an added bonus). No I am here because I have lived an unhealthy life. It was the way I was brought up. Last summer though my mom almost died because of Congestive Heart Failure and this woke me up. It woke me up to the reality that our existence here on earth is but a short one. It woke me up to the fact that life is not worth living if I am not actually able to enjoy my health and well-being. It woke me up to a whole new world of possibility; a world where I could run and not get weary; a world where I could climb the tallest mountains; a world where I could push my self to the limits and rise above the challenges of life. I realized that I could achieve all this if I but simply changed my thinking about food.
At first it was difficult. I tried to eat a fixed number of calories every day, but I almost always succumbed to the delicious treats and fatty foods that plague our society. I struggled but I did not give up. I persevered, focusing on one unhealthy habit at a time. Pretty soon I found that I shed 5 pounds, then 10 pounds, then 20 pounds. I started to look at food as a means of sustaining life but not as the foundation of living. What I mean is that I began to see food as a necessary part of life but also not the end goal of life. I committed to exercising a little bit at first, then three days a week, and now every day. Since I have started I have lost almost 50 pounds and am proud of it.
When I played high school football, my football coach would constantly drill in us "ALL GUTS! NO GLORY!" Now I look at this in a different light "NO GUT IS GLORY!" I have made this my motto and my drive to losing the excess weight I have. I would love to befriend anyone who is struggling with their weight and encourage them in their darkest hour. I know it is not easy, but as a community we can conquer unhealthy lifestyles. I would also embrace any friendship that could assist me in my personal weight loss goals. If you believe that you can succeed I will believe in you too. Thanks.
Your Future Friend,
Alexander
