What carbs are thr best for low carb diet?

Aside from veggies and an apple a day (and other fruits sometimes), I've been eating a cup of quinoa (for lunch) and 1/2 cup oatmeal with 1 banana (for breakfast) everyday.
I've read that low carb diets only need a small amount of carbs like 20-40g? How to do this without binging at the end of the day!!!

If you're following Atkins staged approach then Induction is the hardest because of lack of fruit, but it's only for a few weeks
if you're just cutting carb intake, look at labels and be true to yourself about portion sizes - i love brocollli in home made cheese sauce (no flour or eggs).
Beware of insulin responses to fructose, which is natural sugars occuring in fruit and vegetables - better for u than added sugars but fructose still creates a response. If you're looking to put your body into ketosis then keep your carbs low and allow your body time to switch over0 -
baked/microwaved potatoes0

Generally vegetables - the green leafy kind eg spinach, cabbage, or brocolli, cauliflower, green beans etc rather than the starchy kind (potato etc).
It depends on how low carb you want to go. I eat around 30% carbs the rest is fat and protein.
Low carb means that you reduce all starchy foods - it doesn't mean you don't eat any carbs - you get them from vegetables and fruit.. You replace the carbs with fats and protein. Eg swapping the breakfast cereal for bacon and eggs or having cheese, tuna, avocado and salad for lunch and having meat and vegetables with real butter for dinner. It is really difficult to get hungry if you eat like this - it is a lot of food - BUT my own personal theory is you still need to watch the calories.0 -
Looking at your diary, you should really replace some of your carbs with proteins and fat, even if you aren't following a low carb diet. You can add more meat, eggs, nuts, ice cream, protein bars or drinks..
And before you go low carb, make sure you fully understand it and it matches your fitness goals. BTW, if your only goal is to be tone and fit, then you can do that with lifting and a moderate deficit.0 -
If I do replace most of my carbs with proteins and (healthy) fats, what about cholesterol and other negative factors that this might bring? My plan is to lose 10-15lbs. I'm 5'2. And I do Insanity as scheduled. Currently on the first month.0

Cholesterol is more effected by genetics and weight. Losing weight alone will improve cholesterol.
Also, insanity requires a lot of calories. And since it's a cardio program, you really need to get enough protein. Protein and resistance training help maintain lean body mass, which provides much greater composition changes. If possible, I would recommend doing a program that incorporates both weight training and cardio such as: body beast, p90x(2)(3), chalean extreme. But if you are want to do insanity, I would recommend setting your calories to 1700 and macro's to 40% carbs, 30% protein and fats.0 -

Cholesterol is a naturally occurring substance in the body - very little cholesterol actually comes from your diet most of it is produced by your body. If your body doesn't have enough it will manufacture more all by itself (which sort of begs the question - if cholesterol were so bad why does your body make it? Simple answer is that it's not as bad as it's been made out to be.) The only really bad fats are trans fats and really shouldn't be in your diet at all.
Note this is not mainstream thinking at all - quite the opposite and I do expect that there will be quite a few here who would totally disagree with me because this is not what the media has been feeding us for years.

So you are saying that there is no link between high cholesterol and heart disease?0 -
No I'm not saying that at all - but there is a big difference between a correlation (link) and causality. The links that I posted question causality - the analogy that the doctors like to use is that of firemen at a fire. It goes like this - you always see firemen after or at a fire - therefore do you blame the firemen for starting the fire? It would be like a doctor telling you that you have a cold and your white blood cell count is elevated - therefore the white blood cells caused the cold - it's a bit of a jump isn't it?0

Funny, I was just reading a harvard article on this. Below is the link. Sorry it's long but it's very informative.

I actually wasn't questioning the idea of good fat, I was questioning the(which sort of begs the question - if cholesterol were so bad why does your body make it? Simple answer is that it's not as bad as it's been made out to be.)
Just because the body produces something it doesn't mean it's automatically good (cancer tumours are also produced by the body and very rarely someone suggests that is a good thing).0
