Ran 3 miles this morning!! Finally worked back up to it!!

I am so excited that I was finally able to run 3 miles again. I haven't been able to run more than one or two miles before feeling exhausted. A couple years ago I would run 3m 5xwk. The only thing I can think of is that since I'm lifting before I jump on the treadmill, my body is already tired. Oh well, today was a huge victory for me. Now I gotta get it up to 13.1!

My friend and I signed up for a half marathon in May. Any words of advice would be much appreciated!

Well done on getting back up to 3 miles.

I have been using the BUPA half marathon training program and am on week 6 of a 12 week program.

You still have over 18 weeks until May (depending when in May) the HM is so you could repeat some of the earlier weeks until you are comfortable running 5K every run.

There are a lot of other HM training programs out there, Hal Higdon is mentioned a lot on this forum. I chose the BUPA one because it incorporates Tempo and Speed work quite early in the program. Just choose the one that suits you best.

And remember whatever program you choose you will be looking to complete the HM, not win it, so slow down if need be.

Congratulations! All excellent advice by Geno above. I would simply add that you might want to squeeze in a 5K or two during your training, as a psychological boost and to give you a feeling of movement toward your half-marathon goal. Good luck!

    +1

That is very good news! Good going! I can well remember my first 3+ miles. Now I do 4+ every day.

You can do a half; yes, you can!

Thank you all for your encouraging words! I will keep at it. Geno, I've heard of the Hal training programs before but not the BUPA I just opened the link and will be reading it shortly.

BTW the HM is the first weekend of May. I know I can do this!
