Starting to pay more attention to macros

Hi all!

I've been at this for a while now but I've only just decided to pay more attention to my intake of nutrients and not just to caloric intake. For the most part I'm getting the hang of it but I have one problem.

I often have a couple of hundred leftover calories at the end of the day (and because I only eat 1320 a day plus any exercise calories, I don't like to have many leftover) but no fat or carbs left over. Of course, ideally, I'll plan it so this won't happen but sometimes it does anyway.

I've figured out that if I have no fat left I can eat just about as much 0% fat yogurt as I can fit into my carbs/calories. And raw cucumber has no fat and few carbs but also very few calories. I can eat a whole cup of it for only 14 calories so it's useless to fill up on.

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas for low carb, low fat snacks that I can use to fill in my calories, that would be great. It seems kind of silly since I'm basically asking for pure calories with no nutrients... but I figure my body needs that energy even without them.

Thanks!

    I use the MFP defaults and exceed my protein & fiber goals and meet my calorie, iron & calcium goals. (This means I'm over in fat & under in carbs, but I just ignore them.)

    Hmm. Yeah, I don't mind exceeding my protein or fibre goals. I rarely even meet my protein and I'm always over on my fibre.

    My favorite high protien snack: hot chocolate! It's perfect as the weather gets colder.

    * half scoop of double chocolate protien powder
    * 1C almond milk
    * 1TBS Hershey's unsweetened cocoa

    Put in a bullet blender, blend smooth then Microwave 1 minute.

    110 calories
    14g protien
    4g fat
    7g carbs
    49% of daily calcium

    I don't understand why (and really don't care) but microwaving it causes it to form a creamy frothy top. I've also substituted PB2 (powdered peanut butter) for the cocoa.

    Mmmmm that sounds so good! And such great protein without much carbs or fat. Thanks very much! I'll be making that.

    You could also try adding protein to your food throughout the day. For example, PB2 or slivered almonds in your yogurt (or in oatmeal/porridge).

    Chicken breast, canned tuna or salmon, and low-fat lunchmeats (if my sodium isn't too high) are my go-tos for the "mostly protein" category, though I prefer to eat them with some kind of dressing like salsa, BBQ sauce, or mayo if I can spare the fat/carbs.
