Canola\Rapeseed Oil vs Olive Oil?

Options
Anyone tried Canola\Rapeseed oil for cooking? Apparently it has just under half the saturated fat of olive oil, not sure what it's like in the taste department?

Canola really can't compare to olive oil for either taste or health benefits. Canola also has trans fats created from the deodorizing process of the refining process........I see no reason whatsoever to consume it. The high polyunsaturated content (omega's) also make it less desirable for cooking..........omega's really should never be heated, let alone refined with high heat.

Take a look at this post about polyunsaturated (canola) vs saturated (olive oil) -- http://www.marksdailyapple.com/polyunsaturated-fat/#axzz2nEAGlgb7

I love olive oil and coconut oil the most! yum

I'm, olive oil isn't saturated at all, it's about 90% unsaturated. Canola oil is also about 90% unsaturated.

Canola oil also doesn't have trans fats, that's a myth. It's also not rapeseed oil, as that's a completely different (although related) plant. It's the 3rd most commonly used cooking oil in the world. Nothing wrong with it. It has a different ratio of polyunsaturated vs monounsaturated fats compared to olive oil. It can also take slightly higher heat than olive oil, so it's slightly better for say, stir fries.

It's just another option. My go to oils tend to be olive, peanut, or canola.

I use both, depending on what I'm using it for. Canola oil has little flavor, making it ideal for baking. You should also buy organic canola because most canola oil is genetically modified. Olive oil does impart a tastier flavor for most cooking, though!
