I AM SPARTA! AROO! AROO! AROO!

I never thought that 2013 would bring me a lot of "firsts".

First 5K - Color Run
First Mud Run - Dirty Girl
First 10K - Salmon Run
First Half-Marathon - Nike Women's Marathon
First Spartan Race - Spartan Sprint

The Spartan Sprint at Malibu was the perfect way to close my 2013 year of races and OCRs. I was already scared (but excited) about it but when you add rain and nearly freezing temps, you can't blame me for freaking out some more!

With the help of my awesome brother, I got through most of the obstacles. He lifted and pushed me to get over walls, rode on his shoulders on the monkey bars, held my hands as we trekked up and down steep terrains and through the freezing cold pond - he was just with me every second of the race. I know for sure that I will be doing hundreds of burpees if not for him being there for me every step of the way! For that, I'm forever grateful!

Then of course, there's the most awesome team ever, the Weeple Army! (https://www.facebook.com/groups/WeepleArmy/) Thanks to them, there was not a shortage of words of encouragement coming from every direction. During the barbed wire crawl, just when I thought I was ready to give up because I was hurting and frustrated, I'll suddenly hear the NorCal Weeples and some random Weeples shouting, calling out my name and telling me that I'm almost there and that I can do it. I heard them loud and clear which gave me the push that I needed to just keep going and not give up. They also helped me get over the inverted wall - that thing was nasty as hell!

When I saw fire and the gladiators, I knew that it was only a matter of minutes before I get my first Spartan Race medal. As soon as I have it my hands, I cried and sobbed because I never thought that I would do something so physically and mentally challenging in my entire life!

For 2014, I will attempt to get my Spartan trifecta. I definitely have a lot of training to do to condition my body and mind to accomplish it. If I get it next year, awesome! If not, there are more opportunities to do it. I'll never give up until I have my hands on that tri-color medal!

Big thanks to MFP for getting me started on my journey to a healthier life and super thank you Weeple Army and Spartan Race. Because of you, not only that I get to meet wonderful people who are great inspirations and motivators but you also made this 40-year old become a Spartan Chick! AROO!
