So I saw coconut sugar on the shelf in a store last night. I usually don't keep regular sugar in the house (i use equal in my coffee) but was thinking about trying the coconut sugar. Has anyone used it? How does it compare to regular sugar especially in calories?

Sugar is sugar. Honey, agave, cane sugar, concentrated fruit juice, maple syrup, sugar-in-the-raw, molasses, and even coconut sugar. There are many forms of sugar from different sources. They all have sucrose and/or fructose and/or glucose and/or another "-ose" sugar substrate.
The marketing behind these products lead people to believe that they are eating something "healthier", or "organic", or "natural". These are marketing gimmicks, finding new ways to produce sugar products that sell. Sugar is sugar....period. If you want sugar in your diet (I don't) then go ahead and buy/eat sugar, but don't go and buy these alternatives thinking that you are reducing or avoiding sugar in your diet.0
