Need to lose 15-20 lbs can't do much exercise

Hey,

So, I have come to the realization that I need to lose some weight. I am 22 years old and just finishing up college so I gained my 10 or so pounds in college. I'm about 5'9 and currently weight 196 pounds. That being said, I have always had pretty large shoulders and a stock build so I think getting down around 180 would be ideal. My major problem is that it is difficult for me to workout. I suffer from IBS and it is very difficult for me to get through a workout without having stomach cramping or pain. Any ideas on some easy workouts I could try to take some weight off. I also heard stopping eating at night is a good way to drop some weight so I will have to try that as well. Thanks.

Welcome to MFP! Watching your calories and making sure you are eating at a deficit will work by itself but it will be slower. For exercise maybe try resistance bands. You can do that sitting in a chair and it can still give you a good workout.

The first thing that comes to mind is simply walking. I don't know much about IBS; what about just going outside and walking for a few miles? Would that be doable?

push ups, situps, body weight exercises all in the comfort of your own home will help...BUT, you can lose the lbs without any exercise at all if you eat at a deficit. It may take a bit longer, but can still work for sure.
  • Thanks guys. I am going to try some light walking and definitely work on my eating regiment.
  • I lost most of my weight with no exercise (I do some body weight workout, but it is nothing in terms of calories) but don't sweat it - it takes half an hour to an hour of running to burn a mars bar, but a few seconds to not eat it. Just make sure you are eating at a deficit.
  • I, too, am limited but I can do some things in the gym and swimming and walking. I have a pedometer and try to do 7,000-10,000 steps a day.

hey girl this sounds like me in august the only thing is I was 220lbs and I am 5 foot 9 and as well have IBS ... I did consult my doctor before starting a fitness program he told me all is good... so in that case I did start and like you was getting the pain and cramps... went to the doctor and he said its just cause my body is not in shape!!! wow.... that hit me like a brick house .. had nothing to do with the IBS.... so I worked though the pain for about two weeks then it subsided ...... Now I am down 44lbs and no pain .... I hate to be a hard a** but take if from someone who has been there don't make excuses they won't get you anywhere .... MFP is a great start though keep it up and I wish you the best!

I don't know what IBS is. Could you ride a stationary bike or lift weights? swim? From my experience less calories = less weight. Exercise speeds it up, helps build muscle, speed metabolism and burn more calories. I think without it, your goals will just take longer. You can do it!
