Rest or work through it?

My left hamstring is sore from some work I did Tuesday night in a circuit class with a trainer. Last night we reworked some of the same muscles and it was still sore and I could barely lift the small weight I was doing. Should I lay off of it today or work through it? I was thinking of just stretching my hamstrings and waiting until Sunday or Monday to add weight to those muscles.
I nursed a back injury for 6 years and have been working on getting back in shape since September. My core is much stronger but my left leg and hip still seem weak to me. Should I rest the hamstrings or push through the discomfort? I've been thinking I need to focus on the left leg to let it catch up to the right one? Does that sound right?

If it is really painful then rest, or do gentle exercises, maybe swimming? Hope it gets better0

Thanks. I'll definitely swim as I do that 5 days a week already. I'm anxious to even out the left and right side but will try to be patient. I've never had a sore hamstring before so am not quite sure how hard to push it. Even at my age I tend to go over board....LOL, but I want to get better not worse.0
