So much knowledge and insight on facebook

So it seems like in recent weeks, I suppose because of the holiday season and such, that there have been quite a few people posting status updates on facebook concerning their "going on a diet." While that's good and all, it's quite amusing to see the absolutely HORRIBLE diet/fitness advice that gets posted as comments. Most of the time it's along the lines of "Dude, I went on an all juice diet and lost 10 lbs. in a week, you should totally try it," or "I take [insert whatever gimmick diet pill here] twice a day and I've lost 30 lbs," pretty much the usual broscience bullcrap that gets posted anytime someone remarks about starting a diet. Nothing that's really helpful.
I'm finding it harder and harder to bite my tongue. I'd love so much to post "Gee, ya know, instead of following John's advice, you could sign up for something like MFP, start tracking what you eat to ensure that you're in a daily caloric deficit (which is how you lose weight) and begin a moderate exercise program." But, I don't ever like to be "that guy," so I've refrained from doing it.
I know it's not any of my business, but good god. Does anyone else experience this?

That's nothing. One of my family members is an Isagenix executive and 80% of her posts are Isagenix ads disguised as something cute about my nephews, or else flat-out spam. It kills me to keep my mouth shut.0

If Joe can response with his not so healthy advice of a juice diet, I don't see why you can't also respond with your advice. No need to say "Joe's an idiot, just sign up on MFP". Just say something like "I've been on MFP for x months and lost x pounds in a nice healthy gradual way. If you decide to sign up, send a friend request to MyUserName. And good luck!"0

This. Exactly.
I will also occasionally throw out my favorite lesson I've learned: "Don't do anything to lose weight that you're not willing to do for the rest of your life."0
