Having a Healthy Relationship with Counting Calories

Ever since I started counting calories during my senior year of high school I was obsessed and controlled by my calorie limit. For the next two years I would count for a few months then stop because it would become over whelming for me. I wanted to keep track of what I was eating and have an idea of where my calories were going, so, lately I've upped my goal of calories to 2000 (a maintain goal). I thought that if I didn't have such a strict goal I could really decide what I wanted to eat and how much and how many calories I was willing to "spend". I've found this to be very helpful and mind settling. I don't feel restricted anymore and if I treat myself I don't feel bad about it, and then when I exercise and see all the calories I have left it is almost a victory to me because of how I was before!
I wanted to share my mini story in the hopes that someone who was obsessive such as myself, would find some comfort and possibly some help. Counting calories is a fine line in my opinion because if you become too obsessive it will destroy you and only lead to self doubt and poor body image. Always know that losing weight and living a healthier lifestyle isn't ALL OR NOTHING! You can enjoy a slice of pizza or an ice cream cone and still make progress. Transforming your body isn't about transforming only the outside but the inside as well!
