Ok, I have a friend who is trying to add a little bulk but more importantly tone up. Normally I throw one of my usual workout regiments her way with adding a lil more lean protein to her diet and up her calories a lil bit along with lots of reps instead of heavy weight/low reps. Reps to Fail. However, this is a more unique case because she is a single mother getting back into the swing of things, she works 3 jobs and is very active in her sons activities. Not a lot of time and access to gyms. So I wanted to kick this out to you all to see what kind of workouts that you guys do to work around busy schedules and still get a good intense workout done. She will probably have about an hour a day or maybe every other day to get her workouts in.
A lil about her body style, she is tall and slender, actually if you know who Zoe Saldana is....she kind looks like her older twin sister. A bit taller and more slender. She says she can eat and normally eats any and everything so her metabolism is super high. I think I can work around her diet but need some advice on what kind of workouts I can advise to her where you might not have access to a gym and/or lots of equipment at all times. I thinking a hybrid approach of weight training when its available and then some core exercises when its not.
So my FitLadies.....please enlighten me so I can in turn enlighten her! Thank you for time and look forward to your responses!

Thx Walleyclan1, not sure if she will be able to fit Kickboxing into her regiment but I know it burns madd calories. I did it one time for sh*ts and giggles...but I was NOT laughing at all at the end! Tae-Bo when i was drastically out of shape was no laughing matter!0

If you really want people to make qualified suggestions you should probably give a better idea of what type of equipment she has access to on the base. She is on base, right?0

A whole regiment seems excessive. Smaller units are probably better if she's just getting back into the swing of things.0

I would think kickboxing or some kind of martial arts or defensive tactics would be very appropriate. Hand to hand combat skills are extremely important in that setting.0 -

I dunno, it really depends on how she plans to attack this fitness thing. Can the OP let us know if she'd prefer the focused aerial assault of a plyometrics campaign or does she like to shock and awe her body with a ground attack of running and blitzing.....errrr, I mean sprinting?
Depending on her plan of action, a whole battalion might be in order.0 -
There are a some good Hiit resources out there if her schedule is unpredictable and she has to workout on her own/at home. There are different times and workouts that she can pick an exercise based on the time she has and what she feels like she wants to accomplish

A good plan is really the first step to any successful campaign. Although we must also remember the immortal words of Dwight Eisenhower - a plan never survives first contact.0 -
when I'm housebound I crank up the music go for burpees, hula hoops and skipping rope and then pilates from a book beefed up with squats, lunges and press ups and pull ups using the kitchen table - I use the music tracks as timing so I'll skip for one track, hula for a track and so on. I think if I really could never get to a gym I would think about investing in some kettle bells or weights and some boxing gloves and a punch bag. Hope that helps!0

Excellent suggestions by everyone so far...I truly appreciate all of the helpful info. I have put a call out to her to gather some more details about her environment and time availability. However to clarify a few things, no, she isn't in the military or has access to the base facilities. She hasn't worked out or trained at a focus level in a very long time which is why she is seeking some guidance. I have asked her to give me her specific short term and long term goals to better help work out something for her. Her initial goal when we spoke was to just get back in shape and she wanted to have more tone and definition. That's it. So I'll help her flesh more out of what her ultimate chief aim is and bring that back to you guys when I have it. Thanks again and keep the ideas rolling. I will take these down because who knows who the next person is you might bump into that might need a lil extra specialized help!0

I do SL5x5 3x weekly. Takes about 50-70 min.
I am a mom of 2 boys youngest will be 2 in jan. I have lost 35 lbs and have doubled almost all my lifts from when I started. I feel strong and am beginning to look lean.0 -

I dont like to waste time with tactical maneuvers, so I just throw in a couple tabata hand grenades and call it a day.0 -

that's solid! I sometimes choose the nuclear option and just blast the whole area with my sandbags. i often have to resort to this because i don't have an entire regiment at my disposal0
