Calories for the same exercise changing?

I'm doing the 30 day shred and worked out very roughly how many calories I burn - I added this to the database to add quickly everyday. Every day until now, I've burned 168 calories. I added it today and it says I've only burnt 160? http://oi41.tinypic.com/2rzqp2c.jpg

(ignore the name... it certainly feels like that when I'm doing it haha)

When I started exercising in the summer I was 83kg I am now 69kg and I have to work a lot harder to get the same burn.
On the other hand, now I'm lighter it's easier to work harder!

Yes... The routes I kickbick of mountainbike are the same, and still I'm burning less and less calories (measurement with HRM).
There are two main reasons for that.
    1) Weightloss. I'm losing weight that I don't have to carry around during my exercise
    2) Better cardiofitness. My body is getting used to exercise. And there is a limit to go faster or do more. My heartrate during the exercise is lower than before, even if I bike harder.

Bottomline, the more u get into shape, the more you have to do burn the same amount of calories.
Only option is to get lazy and fat again, then you will burn more calories the moment you do exercise.

This sounds like a good plan to me! Pass the Ben and Jerry's please

I suppose you could carry dumbbells equal to the weight you've lost. Gonna be a struggle if you've lost a lot of weight, though. :o)

Sorry I have to agree, the nearer you get to where you want to be the fewer calories it takes to do the same activity. The bonus is it easier to make the movements and that has to be worth the effort.

The more weight to loose from the start the greater the bonus, but I won't go back to where I was for anything. I could carry a (guess the age) grandchild about, as extra ballast!

All the best, Keep up the good work an stay realistic.

  • I think you will find that you are burning a lot more calories that what you are saying as its a high calorie burn when I do the same thing I burn over 300 calories I have changed mine now to the biggest loser boot camp as I wanted a different workout

Thanks guys. I wasn't disputing the lesser amount of calories, merely asking why - I'm new to this. I've been housebound for numerous years so exercise is an alien thing to me.

I have lost weight, about 7lb, so it makes sense now. Thanks again :)

I have no real way of working out how many calories I'm burning as I can't afford a HRM so going off a basic, "averaged" equation :)
