Hey guys. I'm 19 years old and 5'1 and I weight around 65KG (143lbs). I've always been quite chubby. Was NEVER thin like the people around me. In the recent times I have noticed of how fat I am. Even today after I filmed a make-up video for youtube, I realised how fat my face really looks from the side. In pictures if I take them just of my head, I look thin ish. In the mirror I see this blob of fat. When I see women (Women, not girls) who are my height or even shorter, they are super thin and just beautiful. I want to look this way. I turned 19 three days ago and I don't want to be this weight forever. I want to lose it. I have a couple of questions for whoever reads this - and if you do, THANK YOU! :)

I live with my sister, and her husband and her 2 kids. The meals aren't healthy, but aren't completely unhealthy. My sister when she cooks, does take off the skin off the chicken, use low fat milk etc etc. But how can I myself improve my good eating habits? Her children don't eat much, especially healthy stuff. What can I do to improve my eating habits? Also what about the non stop snacking? :(

I have a bike, the excersize bike, would that be a good way for me to lose weight? How often I should go on it? I am not familiar with the bike so I don't know! How much I would have to do it per week to see some results?

Also, I have fat on my stomach, and back and what not. My upper tighs are quite large as well. What should I do to shrink them? I am thinking of doing the 30 day squat challenge. I did it before, but stopped after day 23, no idea why. Joining the gym isn't an option as I can't afford it, wish I could though. I walk everywhere, often when I go to the city center it takes me 40minutes each way and then the extra walking in the city center. Should I be counting my calories?

Thanks whoever read this! x

    Hey ^^

I'm short too, 5'3, not as petite as you are, but I know the problem. We really have to look out for our weight because if we gain it shows.

If you keep doing this, no matter how you eat- unhealthy or healthy, if you stay within your calories, you will lose weight. And if anyone quotes me, which they love to do, my eating habits used to be really healthy, and when I started this I was eating unhealthy. Yet I stayed under my calories, some days I even ate all of them, I ate back exercise calories, I still lost weight. So it goes to show it doesn't matter how you eat, all that matters is the amount of calories you eat to lose weight. It is not healthy to eat unhealthy but I've started eating healthier now.

Always try and eat a healthy breakfast. I eat a porridge sachet for breakfast. I never liked porridge, but I do now if it has flavour so I have ones with fruit in, today I had blackberry and apple. When you get hungry between meals, eat some fruit. You said you have trouble with non-stop snacking. You are probably bored, maybe you can take a walk, or watch a movie, even pick up a new hobby like an instrument, doing sequin arts, playing sims 3 (if you're new to it or haven;t played in awhile, it can become addicting- you can play it for hours and be hooked on it).

Also, sometimes our bodies tell us we are hungry when we are thirsty. When you feel hungry but you've already had a meal, drink some water. Hydration is good, and the best feeling. You can tell you are hydrated when your urine is light yellow or clear. When it is clear it means you should slow down with drinking though as you are too hydrated.

There is also a saying eat breakfast like a king (queen in this instance),have lunch like a commoner (?) and dinner like a pauper ). It means have a good breakfast, a filling one, even a big one. Have lunch normally, then eat little for dinner. So if you have a good breakfast you shouldn't feel like snacking. Another tip I've heard is drink water first thing before eating, speeds up metabolism. Drink a glass of water before each meal, it means you will eat less. And eat slowly, because it takes 20 minutes for our brains to process that we are full. So it means we eat less in the long run instead of wolfing it down. Green tea is also great for speeding up the metabolism and other benefits.

Exercise bikes are great. We used to have one. Any cardio exercise including using an exercise bike is great. Try and go on it for half an hour 5 days a week I'd say. Zumba is really good, you can find routines on youtube. It's great cardio and burns quite a lot of calories. It's also fun. You will have to mix your exercise up, so try all different kinds of exercise, after awhile the body gets used to exercise so it won't have the same reaction as it first did.

For sure count your calories when walking to the city center and back, 80 minutes of walking is good and you probably burn around 400 calories doing that.

The 30 day squat challenge will probably tone your thighs, but I'd recommend the 30 day shred. It will tone you up and make you lose inches off your body. It can make your physique thinner, and you stomach flatter etc.

Being short means weight is incredibly noticeable, I think more so to ourselves than others. I'm 5"2 and 142, so very similar to you. I've started free weights (HEAVY ones) and that has help lean out my midsection- back fat be gone! My goal is 125.

As for your calorie burn just be cautious with what MFP says, it's very high. For instance I have a Polar Heart rate monitor, and 60 minutes of jogging and I burn about 540-580 calories. MFP says MUCH higher! If you're using the website to judge burns then only eat a portion back (50-75%) to make up for any errors. Same for wakling- 80 minutes of walking for me does not burn 400 calories
Weight all your food! Snack on low fat cheese, carrots and hummus, nuts, fruit or if you're really craving sugar try dark chocolate. Eating protein helps me stay full.
There are some great workouts for free on Fitness blender website, or you can see some Jillian Michaels DVDs on youtube- she is amazing!
No matter what I do I seem to only lose 1lb per 10 days and I've accepted that. (I've tried 800 calorie burns per day, I've tried whole foods only, more protein/less carbs etc) Sometimes bodies react differently and unfortunately you can't guarantee when your body will let go of the weight, some people the calories in vs calories out doesn't balance as quickly as you'd expect. Just stick at it! good luck!
  • I don't know what area you are in, but where I am (San Diego), there are several options for low to no cost gyms. Check out the options at your community college for gym classes...swimming, volleyball, basketball, dancing, etc. You can also try the daily deal sites on the internet (there has to be about a dozen or more here) they always run deals on local gyms. Also if there are plenty of gyms in your area, most give out free passes (you can get them in the penny saver or on line). Find as many as you can so when they do their sales pitch you'll say NO, given that you know that you can continue going to others for free. I've found craigslist to be very useful too. Lot of different types of exercise equipment at a very low cost, some even in the free section, including full size trampolines with safety nets, that would work great for you and your sister's kids. Become the favorite auntie (& sister) and take the kids to the local playground. Use the ladders on the slide (the fun part of going up is you get to come down, take some wax paper for a faster slide down), push the kids on the swing then hop on one yourself and pump your legs I did this the other day & it's a lot of work, push them on the merry go round, just keeping up with them is a calorie burner.

Make a list of FUN things to do with your friends & do at least one a week. If you've got snow go sledding! You have to climb up the hill for every time you come down. And it's a fun free workout! Here I can take the sled to the desert sand dunes, but they're over an hour away.

P.S. the scale below is not up to date (Mondays are the weigh in day with my friends), the first 20 pounds was before I started here, and during the last 6 days I've lost 5 pounds. Just by eating healthy, walking and having fun.
