Hi! I am trying to plan a "trip of a lifetime" for 2014 and would love to hear suggestions.

Constraints:
would like total travel time to be less than 14 days
budget less than $15k or $7500/pp
already been to Asia and no desire to go back
We've been to almost all Caribbean islands and on multiple cruises

Things I've already thought of:
Hike to Manchu Picchu - #1 possibility but worried about safety
Australia/New Zealand
Grand Canyon
Drive California coast
Wine Country
Oktoberfest on Munich - Ruled out
Alaskan cruise
Paris, France- Ruled out

  • Kenya or South Africa and do a safari. You can do a private tour reasonably priced and stay at a nice lodge.

Go to D.C., to go new York, go to Arkansas, go to South Carolina, go to North Carolina, go back to Las Vegas, go to New Mexico, go to Arizona
  • I was also going to say Kenya and South Africa. Also, Thailand and the Philippines!

Not go back to Asia, why not? I have been to China and loved it!

After reading your list, I have to say I have a huge bias. I really want to hit up Australia for the scuba diving.

    Great suggestions.

I have a bucket list trip (6 months) planned for February 2015, just over a year to go now

    My itinerary is:

    Hong Kong/Yang Shao
    Australia/New Zealand
    Belize
USA- LA (Coachella Fest), Grand Canyon/Monument Valley, tornado chasing in mid west. Breaking bad tour (NM) Walking dead tour (Georgia) Florida/NY
    Toronto
    Home

Somehow this has to fit in a budget of £13000. Luckily I have friends in some of these places

Always wanted to visit Manchu Picchu, it looks soooo beautiful, I worry about language barriers. I have to do my trip on my own and I am pants at picking up other languages which is why I have stuck to safe places with lots of English speakers. I suck

Northern lights - don't mind where I see them from but Iceland is probably the best bet from here. Australia, too big to do in a lifetime of visits, California and Sweden. Now, just off to buy a lottery ticket!

Your constraints got rid of most of my suggestions.
A few years ago I rode a motorbike around Europe for 16 days (Holland/Germany,Switzerland,Italy,Monaco,France,Spain), with some off road riding and mostly wild camping.

As a kid we drove across America, but took 4 weeks to do it (actually 6, but first 2 were in LA).
Also 6 weeks island hopping across the pacific before that.

I'd like to do a motorcycle trip through Vietnam someday. I'd love to see Istanbul.

Oh and I'd like to dive the Great Barrier Reef.

What are you most interested in? I personally like art, history and architecture so my dream vacations tend to be big European cities - I've been to London, Vienna, Munich, Rome, Florence, Athens, Madrid. Edinburgh..still need to see Paris and St. Petersburg. If I wanted to see natural beauty I'd say Iceland or New Zealand, or maybe an African safari while there are still animals left.

May I suggest a Hot Air Balloon safari in South Africa. It runs about $425.00 dollar a day, air fare not included.

    See: http://www.balloon.co.za/

My wife and I did it, for much less that your $15,000 and we really enjoyed it.

    Bucket list things I've done:

Kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland
Contiki tour in the Greek Islands (highly recommend this, so much fun cruising in between the islands!)
    Ate haggis in Scotland
    Went to EuroDisney in Paris
Italy - all of it (truly one of my favourite countries)
Climbed Mt Vesuvius near Pompeii, Italy (truly amazing, once in a lifetime opportunity)
    Acropolis in Athens, Greece
    Istanbul, Turkey
    West End musicals in London
    Barcelona/Mallorca, Spain
    Cruising
    Grottos/Cuevas (caves)

Bucket list things I still have to do:

New York - all of it (especially Broadway musicals)
South America - for the dancing (I studied latin dance for 8 years)
Theme park road trip across the States
La Tomatina in Spain (tomato fight)
Fall in love, get married, have babies

I'm sure I have more. Bump for later.
