losing weight in the perimenopause years

I'm Tess, 51 years old. I joined MFP today. My doctor recommended the site. She also put me on diet that restricts my carbs to 100 g per day and would like to see my protein consumption around 90-100 g per day. This has been a bit of a challenge since my husband & I do not eat meat or chicken. We do eat fish. Somehow I managed to gain weight on a Mediterranean diet . . . I suspect it was the muffins and cookies. It's shocking how fast those calories add up
I would like to meet other optimistic, happy women who are also trying to lose weight and get fit during these perimonpause years.

Today is my first day. I am a 43 year old female that had a hysterectomy 11 years ago. I have struggled my whole life riding the rollercoaster of weight. I'm sure I have lost over 500 lbs throughout my years as I gain and then I lose, and the cycle goes on. My hormones have been all over the scale since 6 months post op and I'm really hoping to get past this and get on with my life. After my hysterectomy, it has been even harder to control my binge eating. They left my ovaries in but I still deal with hot flashes, bloating and feeling PMS symptoms. Here's to beating this for once and for all and teaching my body that I'm the owner and you will follow as I command.
I would love to make some friends on MFP. The more we have the better we will do.0 -
I also strive to eat high protein, low carb and do not eat meat (although I do eat seafood). I eat a lot of tempeh, eggs, and Greek yogurt. Good luck on your weight loss journey!0

Hi, I'm 55 years old and have had a struggle since menopause symptoms have set in. At first I thought an SSRI was the blame that I was using for what I thought was to be fibromyalgia (finding out it may have been perimenopause instead of fibro all along) and quit the SSRI. It didn't make any difference. I also tried the Miracle Diet, low carb, and that didn't help either. While others were losing a lot on that diet, I didn't make much of a loss. Naturally I quit it. Then on the advice of a holistic health coach I am trying this route. I did manage to lose 14 pounds this past year though, but I am finding MFP to be very beneficial after starting it this past Thursday. I realized why the scale was not heading the direction I wanted it to. Stuff I thought wasn't a lot of calories was a lot. That awareness has helped me drop a little weight already without making a lot of sacrifices I might add. However, menopause does make it more of a challenge because that is how the weight piled on more. Once those symptoms started, it seemed like the weight just piled on overnight. I couldn't figure it out until I researched the topic more.0
