Um... what does that mean??

I want to make this cookie recipe:
http://www.verybestbaking.com/recipes/18476/Original-NESTLÉ-TOLL-HOUSE-Chocolate-Chip-Cookies/detail.aspx

I done it a trillion times but never before have I considered looking at the calorie count / serving size until today. (Usually I gorge on about twelve to twenty a day but I thought I'd change that, haha.) Usually I wind up with about 25 - 30 cookies roughly 2 inches around.

This is what the site says about the cookies:
Serving Size
1/60 of recipe
Calories 110
Calories from Fat 60

Um, wait... WHAT? I have no idea how to translate that. Anybody else know??

(Also, I really hope this is the correct place to post this.)

EDIT: Thank you all for enlightening me! And to those that posted how many calories I was eating with 12 - 20 cookies, thank you! That just put things into perspective for me and I needed that.

    Recipe makes 60 cookies.
One cookie is 110 calories, 60 calories from fat.

I think in total 110 calories 60 of which are from fat.

But I wind up with half that many cookies... so one of the cookies I make equals two of the cookies they're talking about?

Then yes, you are making your cookies twice the size, so double the single cookie numbers from their sizing to make your calories/fat serving size.

You need to use the recipe builder on this site...put in all your ingredients, for "number of servings" put in the amount of cookies you actually made, and it will spit out how many calories per cookie.
  • You got it.

Yep, your cookies have 220 calories each so if you eat 12 it's 2640 calories. :noway:

That's why I've had to stop making cookies so frequently!

^^ This. I made these cookies yesterday actually and based on the ingredients that I used and that I ended up with 52 cookies, it ended up being 142 calories per cookie - 18g carbs, 2g protein and 7g fat.
  • yup your cookies are about 220 calories

and if you are eating the below :

. (Usually I gorge on about twelve to twenty a day but I thought I'd change that, haha.) Usually I wind up with about 25 - 30 cookies roughly 2 inches around.

    then you are eating about

2640 to 4,400 calories a DAY in just cookies.

    good luck!

So yes, these cookies are 110 for 1/60th of the batch as stated above. However, just a few notes:

#1 buy a small cookie scoop (like an ice cream scoop only smaller). Firstly, it makes scooping cookies so much easier, and secondly, all of your cookies will be the same size and therefore approximately the same calorie count. I find I get a lot more cookies out of a batch of dough this way, and therefore my cookies end up on the lower end of the calorie spectrum

#2 sometimes I replace some of the flour with a protein powder. Last time I used Optimum nutrition mocha cappucino. For every 1/2 cup of flour you remove, add 1/3 cup (heat stable) protein powder, and only replace up to half (ie if a recipe calls for 2 cups of flour, use 1 cup of flour and 2/3 c protein powder). I liked these BETTER than the original.

#3 put the cookies out of sight. Don't keep them in a container together so you will grab 2-3 at a time. Package them individually or put them in the freezer.

    Just some thoughts

Just an added tip. If you want to alter any recipes using no calorie sweetner, low fat ingredients etc, you can enter your recipe in the "recipes" section and MFP will break it down for you. As many of the other posters have said, not all "servings" are equal unless you are weighing everything. I prefer to enter my own personal recipes (knowing how many servings I usually get from a recipe) then use the "add" on the recipe when entering daily intake.

I have a hard time not eating 10+ cookies at a time when they are hot from the oven. I've started making the dough and freezing individual portions so I can grab out one or two at a time to bake.

Thanks for the tip on the protein powder replacement ratio, thats new to me. So teh texture and falvor aren't affected when you do this?

Texture is effected somewhat, the cookies end up a bit thinner. Flavor will change depending on what flavor protein powder you use. I've found that I can cut some of the sugar when subbing in protein powder, because it is sweetened. The Mocha Cappuccino gave the cookies a coffee and toffee-ish flavor that I really enjoyed. I'm sure that its like cooking with wine, if you put in bad wine, the final product will suffer.
