Toy donations for 12-16-year-old boys

I'm donating a gift for a toy drive this year. They have a shortage of toys for boys 12-16. I can't get them video games or DVDs because they may not have the systems with which to use them. Can you kind folks give me some ideas that might be enjoyable for the slightly older boys?

What about individual giftcards so they can get what they want?

As far as I know, there's no gift cards. I'll check that, though.

They sound about the right age for comic books.

I didn't think they made toys for that age group. I'd get some footballs, basketballs etc.

probably best to ask a range of 12-16 year old boys what kind of gifts they like to receive. Teenagers are a lot less into toys and more into other stuff, like social media and video games. I can see why it's a hard age group to buy gifts for. A lot of it is individual, as in if I was going to buy a gift for a boy this age I'd find out what he's interested in first, and base the gift on that. So that doesn't help really.

Maybe something like wireless speakers or iHome type something they can plug an MP3 player into, sports equipment, 3D puzzles, snow stuff like sleds or snowboards....

My son is 13 and still enjoys Lego, reading, origami, sports, NERF guns (have you seen the nerf guns?), manga.

I know some that enjoy model building.

Nerf, remote control cars, Dr. Dreadful crap, model cars, puzzles, books, boardgames
  • My son is 11 almost 12, legos, RC cars, gift cards, skateboards, even bicycles. I always try to pick an older child because they seem to be overlooked for the little ones.

    Legos.

Legos definitely, the only problem is the sets that are actually worth buying for a 12-16 year old are the ones that start to get REALLY pricey.
    nerf
    skate boards
    anything athletic based really
gift cards would be perfect if they are allowed
packs of undershirts or plain long sleeve shirts
military or history based books/movies are usually HUGE with older teenage boys

Nerf guns or sports balls. 12-16 is an odd range because at 12 they're still playing with action figures but by 16 they're not.

I remember I had a pink one of these. I recorded EVERYTHING. They use up batteries like crazy, though.
