building muscle with hashimoto's disease?

I have hashimoto's disease (auto-imune, antibodies that the thyroid produces attack the thyroid). So one of the major side affects is weight gain. I work out 5 days a week for about an hour each time. Mostly cardio which is why i believe i am not overweight. But i feel like i have to work so much harder for average results. I have started to cut back on cardio and start free-weight training 3x a week. I want to gain muscle which requires a surplus in calories, but i am sooooo scared to eat too much and gain fat rather than muscle. I eat about 1400 daily and for the first time upped it to 1500. On my cardio days my net is 1200-1300.
Any advice on calories/hashimotos/muscle gain?

If Hashimoto's is properly treated, it doesn't really affect your metabolism. I have Hashimoto's and have had my RMR tested in a lab. It's 10% higher than online calculator estimations.
You are a tiny girl though, so you do need to be careful about what numbers you use. So, you maintain on about 1400 calories?0 -
I'm around your weight, same height. Add me if you like. I'm starting to try to gain muscle now.0

correct! 1400 maintenence/non-workout days0

If you are being treated successfully, it shouldn't impact your weight at all. Nor would I think effect your ability to put on muscle. I have it too, and besides the initial 5 lb gain before the diagnosis, I have more or less maintained, lost or gained whenever I chose to.0

I have hashimoto as well and trust me I know the scare of gaining weight with out control I am still dealing with that fear myself my goal is to also gain muscle. I am 5'9 146 26 years old eating around 17-1800 calories a day even though the calculators saying around 2200 to gain muscle but I haven't eaten that much since I was diagnosed four years ago . At first I would exercise everydayyyyyyy with more cardio and eating 1200 calories n was down to 136 but I wanted more muscle and after getting my personal training cert. I realized I was just loosimg muscle . I was wondering for those of u with hshimoto if u eat a special diet like gluten free ???0

i dont have any comment on the hashimoto's but in general, when you bulk you gain fat as well as muscle. there's no way around it. this is why people have bulk and cut cycles0
