If I'm trying to lose a lot of weight, am i hindering my progress by only doing intervals to replace longer traditional cardio? how can i track interval calorie burn? I feel like I would not be within my calorie burn goal if I do intervals.

I would suggest getting a heart rate monitor. It would probably give you a fairly accurate guess about how many calories you're burning. Doing intervals is probably keeping your heart rate higher and keeping your body from getting too used to doing one thing, so it probably burns more calories.0

Bump to follow, I'm curious about this too.0

HRMs don't track intervals. If you're a beginner, I'd stick to longer stretches of steady cardio over intervals for a while0

Moderate calorie deficit + ample protein + consistent activity (whatever you'll stick with both in terms of adherence and staying injury free) + time = success.0 -
Intervals are more for fitness, not weight loss. And yes, HRMs are useless for tracking interval burns.0
