Hello all you amazing people smile
I need to interview one person for school, it's about diet safety. Must be someone who has been on one of the following: the Atkins diet, Weight Watchers, Slim Fast Optima diet, Sugar Busters, or the South Beach diet.
Ok, here's the questions...
•Why did you initially choose this diet?
•What is the basic premise of this diet/eating plan?
•What were two positive aspects of the diet?
•Were there any downsides to the diet plan? Explain.
•Did you have success on this diet?
•Are you still on the diet plan?
•Have you maintained your weight loss?
•Do you feel the diet is safe? Why or why not?
•Did you exercise while on the diet?
•Would you follow this diet plan again?

Most people here use the MyFitnessPal method or some variation of. I bet you can find a local weight watchers group (they're in the phone book or online). They have a leader who you could call and interview.0

OP -- I can answer for Weight Watchers:
•Why did you initially choose this diet? -- People I knew were doing it and having great success. Also, I liked that I could eat "real" food.
•What is the basic premise of this diet/eating plan? -- Eat less, move more.
•What were two positive aspects of the diet? -- I lost weight easily and learned a lot about nutrition. It also taight me portion control.
•Were there any downsides to the diet plan? Explain. -- It cost a lot of money and the company changed the guidelines pretty much yearly. However, I learned it well enough to follow it for free, anyway.
•Did you have success on this diet? -- Yes.
•Are you still on the diet plan? -- I still follow eat less/move more and I still weigh and measure my portions, but I'm not officially on it.
•Have you maintained your weight loss? -- I did for two years. I put some back on, but that was a medical issue.
•Do you feel the diet is safe? Why or why not? -- I do. It teaches nutrition (Good Health Guidelines) and encourages exercise.
•Did you exercise while on the diet? -- Yes.
•Would you follow this diet plan again? -- Yes.0 -

But a lot of people have done other diets before joining here?
OP, here's Slim Fast.
•Why did you initially choose this diet? - Simplicity and a fast results promise
•What is the basic premise of this diet/eating plan? 2 shakes a day, 3 snacks, and a 'healthy' dinner
•What were two positive aspects of the diet? - It was simple, and the shakes were suprisingly tasty.
•Were there any downsides to the diet plan? Explain. - Many. I got bored quickly, I was hungry, it was expensive, and any kind of social life regarding food or alcohol was difficult to fit in.
•Did you have success on this diet? - I lost weight quite quickly in the 3 weeks that I tried it, but I gave it up for the reasons listed above.
•Are you still on the diet plan? - Hell no.
•Have you maintained your weight loss? - No.
•Do you feel the diet is safe? Why or why not? - No. Looking back now, it was too low calorie and it didn't meet your nutritional needs.
•Did you exercise while on the diet? - No.
•Would you follow this diet plan again? - No.0 -
I did South Beach a while ago, long before MFP.
•Why did you initially choose this diet?
Seemed straightforward enough and cooking relatively simple.
•What is the basic premise of this diet/eating plan?
Don't eat carbs.
•What were two positive aspects of the diet?
Required little thought and minimal cooking.
•Were there any downsides to the diet plan? Explain.
More suited for sedentary people.
•Did you have success on this diet?
Not the kind that sticks.
•Are you still on the diet plan?
Hell no.
•Have you maintained your weight loss?
From that round of dieting, I didn't.
•Do you feel the diet is safe? Why or why not?
Yes, assuming you are borderline bedridden.
•Did you exercise while on the diet?
Yes, but not for purposes of losing weight.
•Would you follow this diet plan again?
Never. Since then, I attempted a limited carb diet similar to what my mom with Type 2 is expected to eat and learned that even that doesn't play nice with exercise for me. Pass the bread!0
