For a male, I believe 1800. You could always calculate your TDEE -20% and use that, too. Scoobyworkshop.com is a decent calculator. This method already accounts for exercise, so you don't have to worry about figuring calories from exercise.

I'm Male, 5'10 214# with activity set to sedentary and a 1000 calorie deficit. MFP has me at 1380.

On days when I truly sit on my *kitten* and do nothing (ie. hangover), that isn't a problem except for boredom eating. Most days though I actually do LOTS of stuff so I adjust accordingly based loosely on Bodymedia data.

Yesterday I went snowshoeing for about 3 hours, spent a couple hours walking around downtown, and also did Stronglifts. I ended up eating 2300 calories and felt good. That was about 900 below what my adjusted amount should've been. I usually shoot for 500-1000 below that number and it has been mostly working for 8+ months. It took some trial and error, and also having a general idea of how some estimates seem to be low and others high to find the "sweet spot" for my adjustments. I've found that if I eat back ALL the calories Bodymedia gives me, I'll end up just maintaining.

tl,dr: If you sit on your *kitten* all day 1300 is okay.

My situation is a bit special as I already lost a lot...

I average 1300-1700 cal a day, and do 6-700 cal of cardio 4 or 5 times a week, all that in order to have about 1000 cal deficit a day.

I know it is a little bit extreme but :
I get 100+ grams of proteins a day
I have about 30% fat in my diet
Carbs are not my friends... Or more precisely they are the horrible, abusivenfriends that never want to leave 8p
    I don't feel hungry
    I lose weight 8)

I am also carefully of which multivitamin I take, and complement magnesium and potassium to 90% of daily needs every day.

If you do 1300 cal low carb diet you should increase the quantity of fats you ingest, or you will have terrible hunger pangs...

The answer depends on who is losing the weight, and what their "natural" size should be. The more fat there is too lose, the greater the deficit they can reasonably support without depriving themselves of nutrients.

There is also the issue of balancing risks and benefits - there are people for whom rapid weight loss has a better risk profile than slow weight loss.
I know 1200 Calories is too low

As a blanket answer, that's incorrect. There are plenty of people in various states of weight loss who will do just fine under 1200 calories.
