Any ideas of what I can eat that will be comforting? I am feeling really ill today and my usual food choices are not appealing to me.

  • ill how? :( (I'm sorry you're sick) Can you get some soup? That always seems to do it for me.

Do you like chili? Or maybe spruce up some oatmeal?

Pretzels? Something about them soothes my stomach better then saltines. Not sure why. Not sure how you are sick.

Healthy and comfort food should not be in the same sentance :-)

    Home-made chicken soup?

Popsicle? Joly Rancher popsicles are 45 cals and very good. (may help you to stay hydrated if you are sick)

Get better soon!!! Lots of rest for you!!!
    Take care!

Depends on what type of 'sick' you are.
If it's just an all around 'ugh' feeling-stick with starchy carbs- sweet potato, creamy soups, crackers.
If you've been having problems at either end you shouldn't eat too much anyway...try some saltines or pretzels, ginger root to chew on, and lots of liquids.

Its the TOM type of sickness, hehe.

Oatmeal might do the trick. I'm not up to making anything too elaborate like soup/chili (although those sound great).

I agree with ProT. Comfort and food is something that I've had to relearn as something that really doesn't go together. Basically emotionally eating is what got most of us "over weight" in the first place. Wanting food for comfort us is something food was never intended to do. It's fuel. Having said that, I do understand the desire for something warm and filling on days when it's "that time of the month". I used to be the same way. Now when it's that time of the month and feel my body needs some comfort I do some light yoga stretches instead. I love it!

For me there is nothing wrong with wanting something tasty and yummy, but learning that comfort shouldn't come from food was a huge part of this journey. I had to learn not to tie emotion in with eating. But that's just me and something I know I had to work on. It might not be an issue for you at all. If that's the case then ignore what I said. heheh :)

BTW - I too am going through that "time of the month" and I'm cramping like mad, so if anyone knows a natural way to relieve cramps let me know. :)

You're already doing it...yoga is great. I also take EPO (evening primrose oil for the EFAs) during the week leading up to TOM and drink a nettle tisane the week during TOM because it's high in vitamin K which helps clotting.

Thank you for the tips! I'll look into that. :) And yeah, I totally tell a difference when I do yoga. Unfortunately I'm having an extra bad cramp month and it's just not doing the trick - it's helping but not as much as it usually does.

Yeah- emotional eating is always going to be a problem for many of us. I think i did good today at avoiding cravings so I am happy with myself and still got some comfort food in (like hot food at lunch-always a treat).

Exercise can sometimes make me feel better but on days like today it is too painful to do any. But, hopefully tomorrow is a better day :)

Thanks for the suggestions all :)
