Newbie with a question

Hi everyone. I'm just four days in and I'm a little scared. So far the food tracking has been helpful. I start my morning with 30 minutes on the elliptical, followed by 6 to 10 minutes of crunches. Here's the thing, I also do Crossfit a few times a week. All combined I'm adding mega calories to my daily allowance. That's what scares me. Is it safe to use them?

Yes, eat a reasonable amount of your exercise calories up because MyFitnesPal (MFP) has already created you a calorie deficit and given you your daily allowance based on the information you put in and so if you work out you are burning those calories, meaning you end up creating yourself a bigger deficit and can arguable then go into starvation mode if you are not eating enough.
    I hope this helps.

Hi I understand being a little nervous..I would approach it this way: Log the calories as MFP is suggesting but be ready to adjust if you start seeing a gain. Make little adjustments up or down till you find that sweet spot.

Depends on how you're getting your burns. The calculators on MFP are notorious for drastically overestimating caloric burns. If you haven't already, get a heart rate monitor to figure out how much you are actually burning. But yes, you should be eating more when you exercise (I add about 700 for my 10k runs, and more when I was doing insanity).
  • Good morning,

I believe as long as you are tracking your calorie consumption and actually taking in food that is going to supplement, in a nutritional way energy burned, than you should be fine. Just too remember h2o, h2o, h2o. Good luck and just listen to your body.
  • Whew, thanks everyone! I'll keep the focus healthy choices and lots of water and just go for it!
