Upright row grip question

Quick question for the board...when doing Upright Rows with a straight Barbell, was is the proper grip width to use? Wide, shoulder width or close grip?

Thanks!

Depending on the flexibility you have in your joints (wrist, elbow and shoulder), you should be able to do all three. I tend to stick with the shoulder width as it puts less stress on my elbows and shoulders than the narrow or wide grips.

    Define "proper".
I've read the suggested hand placement is the same for rows as bench. I row one finger width narrower than I bench.

For upright rows: if you already have a deltoid lift then go for narrow to target more of your traps. If you don't have an auxiliary deltoid lift of are prone to shoulder problems then use a wider grip.
