I am done with extremes!

Not looking to spark a debate, I truly respect other people`s choice. But, for me, this is how it goes from now on : I AM DONE WITH EXTREMES!!!
I did about everything in the book. Anorexia, Overexercising, Proteins Power, Atkins, Weight Watchers, Mincavi, eating 1200 cal/day, sugar free, no snacking, eating every 3 hours, dietician, eating of smaller plates, eating 1200 every 2 days and unlimited the other day, Overeaters anonymus, fasting, intermittent fasting, Paleo, Primal, intuitive eating, psychologists.... what else....
I AM D-O-N-E.
I have decided that I will just SIMPLY eat of everything, in moderation, keeping nutrition in mind. I want to exercice every day but in moderation. I want to calculate my calories without worrying about grams of this and grams of that, having this rule or that rule. It`s been 19 days on this site and I am not feeling euphoric or deprived (often one or the other with me in regards to food). I just feel.... normal. I feel like this is what will be finally working with me. I feel in control of my food and in control of my behaviors.
I respect all the ``this is better than that`` but after more than 20 years of it I just have enought of it all. I am starting to understand what works for MY body and what does not. It feels great!
Thanks for reading me.

I think that's great that you found something that works for YOU.

So many times, my short time on here I want to tell others to shut up, lol, due to them always telling others that what that person trying or what worked for them in the past and presently doesn't work or won't work. Most the time they never even freakin tried it! Give your opinion but cut all that condescending Bs attitude out! Lol

I'm glad you are doing what's good for your mind, body, and sanity! Lol

    Congrats!

I did not mean it as a ``thing I did to lose weight``. I KNOW it`s an illness.... that I had.... Lost 50 pounds quickly barely eating nothing (an apple a day....) and being totally obsessed with it. I just put it in with the rest, but it`s something entirely different than a diet.

And BTW, I am not implying that doing any one of these program (except the anorexia part...) is extreme. The extreme in it for me was going from one to the other, always searching for the ``perfect`` solution.
  • Are you logging your food Saramelie? I chose not too but i might start in the new year. I agree with just eating in moderation and doing some exercise - love it! Although this week for me has just been eating whatever (sugar and fat) and shovelling snows. We got like 50cm in the last 4 days....and i got now snow blower and have a 3 car wide driveway - damn good work out.

I do. Even when I am unsure (all those pot-luck and special x-mas lunchs lately....). We have a lot of snow here too! Damn snow!! :grumble:

Congratulations on creating a new relationship with food! The more you practice moderation, the easier it gets. Just log, log, log, and enjoy your lifetime journey!

Extremes are really not sustainable. I once went on a crazy diet and lost something like 16 lbs per month. I was eating very little and exercising 2.5 hours per day. It was crazy. I was exhausted and really hungry. Needless to say I gained all the weight back because I didn't really learn anything about food. I also lost quite bit of hair. This time around I'm learning what a real serving is and sometimes it's really eye opening. I haven't started exercising yet but plan to do so in the new year. And this time it won't be 2.5 hours of cardio per day!!!! I'm going to start slow and go maybe 4-5 times per week. Exercise that I can do long term. I'm also going to do weight training, which I never did before.

My new motto is if I can't do it forever, I'm not gonna do it at all.

That's really about the only way that a person can keep the weight off long term. They have to toe that infuriating middle line between hunger and satiation, and get their body to be comfortable at maintenance calories. Eat anything, healthier is better, exercising is better, but the key to weight loss is simply calorie reduction.
