Police and Stolen Phones

What's your opinion:
Should police be involved in recovering stolen phones? I would think that it's an easy "win" when you have track the GPS location. It seems like they only use that information when someone's been hurt or killed.

I'm not going to disparage the hardworking people in law enforcement... but some of the policies they follow don't make sense.

Technology has advanced far enough that it can email a picture of the culprit after failed attempts to unlock the device... AND include a map to their location.

I'm just trying to debate the policy and not their work ethic.

No, they are busy enough, I believe the carriers are on the right track with a GSM blacklist database that they can populate based on stolen device IMEIs (similar to CDMA Esn listings) (unless you have proof (app with a pic or something, but even those can be suspect)

This makes me feel bad for those people that buy used phones off sites and have no idea they were stolen.
