Is a healthy diet causing bowel problems?

I exercise everyday and eat a healthy diet and my digestive system has always been fine. Sorry this is so gross but recently all my poop comes out sticky and stringy in little lumps and is really messy. I have also been having more gas than normal and I feel really bloated.

I have oatmeal, eggs, and fruit for breakfast and lunch and dinner is mostly chicken with vegetables. My main source of carbs is pumpkin, kabocha squash, and sweet potatoes and yams. One time I overindugled on sweet potatoes since they are my favorites and I ate at least 4 large japanese sweet potatoes and orange ones too and that might have been the cause of my sudden diarrhea. However since that on time I have been okay and I can hold down regular food but I barely poop once a day and when I do it is sticky and weird.

I have always had a weakness for sweet potatoes and I often eat 3 very large ones for lunch but why haven't i had any of these symptoms before. Is it possible I damaged my digestive lining or something in my intestines during my really bad diarrhea the last time?

Thanks and please help! I feel fat and bloated and really uncomfortable!

Are you eating a lot of fiber? If you are and haven't been prior to this, that happened to me too. Once I started tracking my fiber and water things happened A LOT quicker for about a week and I was kind of bloated the first few days. But it leveled out in a week or so. I know that sweet potatoes have a lot of fiber in them. I have to watch my fiber to make sure I'm getting enough to keep things moving, but not TOO much.

That's what happened to me - ITS YOUR FIBRE!!

If you are NOT drinking tons of water, You struggle going to the loo, and only a little bit comes out when you think lots will?? Had that problem been there.

You should cut down the oats and they made me look pregnant and get some probotics

Try adding chia seeds to your oatmeal.
worked for me, they are a good source of fiber and Omega 3

Thanks! I've been eating lots of kimchi, greek yogurt, and saukeraut to try and add probiotics which seems to help sometimes. Now my digestion is still weird but most days its normal. I still don't know what it is that causes the problem and it still happens once in a while. I'm also drinking peppermint tea to try and help the issue.
