Going out to eat, takeaways etc..

I'm not one who will give up going out to eat or getting takeaways but one to work it into my day. I don't eat out or order in often enough for it to be a real issue (once every few months really). But I was wondering... how would I log that? I like to be very accurate when I log and, of course, this isn't going to be possible with eating out/ordering in so what do you do?

Most places that I have been to will have nutrition information online and if it doesn't then I log it from another place, or estimate. If you really don't want to guess or estimate then look up nutrition information before you order something and if the place doesn't offer it then just don't eat from there? I personally wouldn't not eat from somewhere just because I don't know the correct nutrition information... Just a suggestion. If you don't eat out often then I don't think that it's that big of a deal.:)

Make your best guess if you can't find nutrition info online.

If you aren't eating take out or at restaurants more than once every few months, I'm not sure why you're stressing it.

Not stressing or worried, just curious really! I'll need to have a look and see if my favourites have nutritional information available, thanks!

I must admit that I eat out way too often. With that being said, I try to only eat at places where I can go onto their website and log the nutritional information. If I can't do that, I try to avoid those places. ...OR if I really want whatever the food/place is..then I will go onto the data base and pick the food option that has the highest calories, which then forces me to exercise a whole bunch and avoid ever selecting that option again :P

As another person said, there are often nutrition details available online. However, since you said you don't do it very often, I'd just log it however I can and not really worry about things. Having one day that is inaccurate is not going to stall, slow, or regress your progress in any meaningful way.

I have take out of some sort once a week, always have, but that is always on weigh in day & alot better then the 4-5 times a week I use to have it! I use to live on McDonalds but haven't had it since August. But I found new "take out" treats that were better both calorie/sodium wise. Swiss Chalet chicken/fries is a favorite. I literally looked up numerous places online & compared all the calorie info to see what were my best options. If we are going out to eat which we don't do often usually for only our bdays or kids bdays we look up info online, preplan our meal ahead of time & we always choose somewhere that has fish as an option. If possible we do our best to plan a workout either before we go or when we get home.

If I can't find it in the database or online I just find something similar or the same from a different place and log that. It has worked for me so far.
