TDEE Question

Hi all,
I have decided to try out the TDEE method, but am a bit confused. I calculated that based on moderate exercise which I feel I do during the week that my TDEE number is 2979. Here's is where I get a bit confused. From what I have read from this thread (http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/510406-tdee-is-everything), the TDEE is BMR + NEAT + EAT + TEF.
So if I go for a bike ride and I figure I burned 400 calories, does that mean my TDEE for the day is then 2579?
What I am trying to figure out if how much calories I can eat during the day to properly get to my goal weight.
Thanks all!
