Hello Everyone,
My name is Russell, but I go by Rusty. I am currently a Bachelor's degree student studying Business Administration at Jamestown Business College in Jamestown, NY. I have been overweight since I was about 14 and it's getting to the point where I can't stand to look at myself in the mirror anymore. I know I'm not as heavy as some, but being 5'10" and 291 lbs isn't healthy. I was once 313 lbs about 2 years ago, but managed to get down to about 280 at one point. However, times turned rough and I had to move back home with family and my weight started climbing again. I've been able to stay under 300, but I need to get back down to around 200. Even though a healthy weight for my height is like 140...I can't picture myself being that skinny. I would prefer to be around 200. I am a thrill seeker and being at my weight prevents me from doing some of the things I love doing and prevents me from trying new, thrilling things. I love roller coasters, but I can only ride a select few because of my "belly". I have always wanted to go skydiving, but again my weight prevents it. So I do have a little motivation to lose, but it's always hard because I have no control over what food is in the house to eat. I can only control how much "bad" food I eat. It will be a long road, but I'm hoping that this time, is "THE" time! Let's go!!!

I just wanted to say hello and good luck on your journey. You sound very determined right now and that's the start!
I'm all for goals that please you rather than following others' goals. I know for me it is easier to set attainable goals than to look at what would be healthy on a chart. I have been as heavy as 307 and setting a goal of 150 or even 180 then would have seemed too lofty and overwhelmed me. When I joined MFP at 262 my first goal was 220. I am a 5'8" woman and plan to wind up around 170 or 180 and to some people that's not a worthy goal but to me it totally is. I wouldn't want to be 135 honestly and it is my body & decision!!!
As for rides, I love 'em too. I last visited an amusement park about a decade ago, when I was around 230-240 lb and I was able to fit on everything but some of the roller coaster safety rails were pretty snug on my belly...so now at 204 lb I'm REALLY looking forward to riding those rides again. 5 years ago, when I was at my all-time high I never thought that would be a possibility again. I hope you'll also get to do that too, during the next year. And maybe skydiving down the road, too :-)0 -
