Yay! Finally broke 6 week plateau!

So I had been consistently losing 1-2 lbs per week since August and when I dropped to less than 20lbs to goal I decided to switch from just general resistance work to true heavy lifting. Accordingly, I upped my calories a bit and told myself I would be OK with my weight loss slowing down because I was trying to do this the RIGHT way.....

And then I went a MONTH with NO weight loss and NO change in my measurements. Luckily, I take pictures at the end of every month and could see *some* changes there. I allowed myself a short panic (ok, maybe not so short), but then took a deep breath and carried on.

Yesterday my measurements showed a 1" drop in my hips and a 1/2" drop in my waist, and today: DOWN 1.4 pounds, and officially half way to goal!

Also, I have gotten more compliments on my "weight loss" in the last couple of weeks than I ever did while I was ACTUALLY dropping weight.

SO, big idea: if you know you are doing everything right, give it time!

Wow, 6 weeks! I just came off a 2 week plateau and that was extremely annoying. You must be a very patient person :). Also I'm thinking any loss this time of year has to be worth double the effort of any other normal day.

I would go nuts if I worried about two week plateaus, I have a two week plateau every month.... and then a large drop when I start again at least.

I teach highschool though, my husband says that makes me a saint in the patience department  .

The time of year is probably the main reason I was doubting myself, but most of what I had read reinforced that a long plateau after changing things up might be normal so I was really trying to not pull TOO much hair out!

Wow...my longest was 3-1/2 but my measurements were moving.
I like your tenacity for sticking with the program!

I think I was losing small amounts of fat all over, and in places like my back where it wouldn't necissarily show up with measurements. Like I said, the pictures were the only thing that saved the day, but it WAS hard not to panic with no movement ANYWHERE!

It just happens.. weight loss is not linear. Sometimes you'll be up a couple lbs, then drop 5, some weeks you don't lose anything at all. As long as you stick with your defect though, it's impossible to truly gain weight, and the loss will show eventually. It has a lot to do with water retention too.

I suggest accepting that it IS going to happen to you at some point. That's why I take the pictures, for times like this one. I knew I was doing everything right and I just had to wait it out.

The key reason it happened was because I upped my calories slightly and added on the heavy lifting. I knew when I did that, I was likely to stall out for a while, but knowing in my logical/rational brain and accepting it when it's been a month and I haven't lost a damn thing are two different issues.

It's normal to worry about it, but as I said in the first post, if you really know you're doing everything right, give yourself time and a chance for what you're doing to work.
